Nebraska vs South Dakota State - Post Game Gripe Session and Nightly Game Thread

See that guy to the left? He's the guy that's going to be chewing ass for the next 12 days. Just be thankful it won't be your ass he's chewing.

As for us fans, this is your post-game gripe session. Just get it all out of your system, don't go to bed angry and wake up with an even worse hangover.

We survived. In the end, that's all this game was about.

Now go back to bed, your sister is getting lonely.

Zac Lee should’ve come in instead of Green. Lee has proven he’s the best thrower* of the three.

From ESPN’s blog:

Texas will have to do everything better next week against Oklahoma. The
defense, which led the nation against the run through three games, was exposed in the second half by UCLA’s zone read from the pistol formation. It let UCLA running back Johnathan Franklin take a big, 35-yard chunk out of an 80-yard scoring drive to begin the second half. On a later drive, quarterback Kevin Prince kept it and trotted into the end zone almost untouched from 38 yards to put the Bruins up 27-6, conjuring up images of 1997’s “Rout 66,” when unranked UCLA beat No. 11 Texas 66-3. Texas never controlled this game, and that’s a bad sign for a team whose annual, season-defining game is seven days away.

It’s good to know that Texas has some trouble with the zone read.

by Aaron Musfeldt on Sep 25, 2010 10:09 PM CDT reply actions

Ug-ly

But, as I’m sure has been said multiple times today: hey at least we’re not Texas!

I think the biggest loser from this game is actually Kansas State….possible let down? Don’t think that’s very likely now.

by Andy Davis on Sep 25, 2010 10:55 PM CDT reply actions

That was a really unpleasant experience

Especially seeing Taylor make the same mistake twice for picks. It seemed like no matter what he did on the zone read, he always made the wrong decision. Some of those throws were about as poorly placed as you could do it without throwing in the opposite direction. I don’t see how he could play much worse, so I guess that’s good. How ironic that the game where Taylor bombs is the first game that we didn’t see Cody in the first half. I’m worried, but optimistic; I think this guy wants to be the best, and he’ll do the work he needs to get there. We know he has the talent.

In some ways I thought this was a worse performance than Iowa State. At least in that game the offense was somewhat efficient; they just couldn’t hold on to the ball. Tonight the offense was struggling for every yard against a much worse team than Iowa State.

I really wish I could be a fly on the wall in that locker room. I said at the half that Bo should kill one of the players to set an example, and I was only mostly joking.

The thing that has impressed me the most about TM is that he HASN'T made mistakes.

He was making good decisions in the zone read for the most part (maybe holding it a bit too much), and his throws have either been pretty good or harmlessly into the dirt. He hasn’t locked on receivers so far either.

Today he did the opposite of all that and made every mistake he hadn’t made so far. Hopefull this was just one game and he can fix his mistakes.

No heart.

SD ran it up the middle all day long and got no push all game long.

Missed tackles on D and STs.

The o-line was man-handled.

Martinez made all the mistakes he had been avoiding so far.

Cody Green is still Cody Green.

Even when we made a nice play defensively we screwed it up. 4th down at the 10 yd line, and Smith picls it off at the 20 rather than knocking it down.

Does that about sum this game up?

by Omaha Sun on Sep 25, 2010 11:51 PM CDT reply actions

I guess

NU just will play like shit when they are not challenged. That is what makes the difference between teams that blow out lesser opponents and great teams. C’mon, they should have won by 40 or more!!!! Sad to hear this, and it wont help their rankings!

It just sucks

to see NU struggle with a lesser team when other teams roll their lesser opponents, and make it look easy. Am I missing something?? Dont tell me SD looked good, thats BS!!! Nebraska should have beat them by 40 or more!!! If they have problems with SDSU, what is gonna happen when they meet UT????

NOT a top 10 team!!

sorry to say, but if you cant hang 60 on SDSU, then you deserve to be lowered out of the top 25!!

Should I go by

rankings? Or should I go according to who played who? According to the 7 degrees of Kevin Bacon I am sure that if I rounded up all of the stats around those juggernauts you (not you because we know how you husker nation like to use “WE”, but your team) have played so far(WKU, Idaho (I won’t even use washington) and SDSU) I am sure that I could find a ranked team somewhere in the schedules and maybe some favorable stats but not likely and maybe somehow how you could be ranked 6th in the country….WHAT? Hey wait, Texas drops some 16 spots or so losing to UCLA and Nebraska actually moves up playing the South Dakota School for Girls in the coaches poll? So much for the coaches poll eh?

again....criteria?

Should we go by overrall statistics, rankings of teams played, um….Actually, forget it. This year is really a lot, I mean a lot like that Rose bowl against Miami and that year.

One ranked team(OU should have been much lower) and Colorado got screwed. Your team is one 62 – 36 game away…..Who will it be?

F’n crikies am I embarrassed. I hope they all get their ass kicked in practice the next week, get their blackshirts taken back and get their ass kicked in practice again.

No excuses for this performance. RIDICULOUS.

Not very impressive

We had better not play like that next week or we will get our backsides handed to us. But K-State did’t play well either. I expect both teams to play a lot better next week. At least we can stop all the Martinez for heisman bullcrap!!!! Maybe someday but it is a long way off. The kid has a tough time hitting wide open recievers. Looked to me like they got to reading their press clippings last week. Could be worse we could be Longhorn fans tonight. UCLA isn’t that good.

by Huzkerfan on Sep 26, 2010 1:03 AM CDT reply actions

just gotta remember one thing

it was a win

you never want to get to the point where a win isn’t ultimately enough

can you evaluate what you didn’t do well? Sure. But you don’t want to get to the point where you’re angry after a win. The top teams and top programs have a standard of performance they hold themselves to, team goals they expect to reach game after game after game, and if they don’t reach that standard and hit those goals, they go back and figure out what they did wrong and fix it.

But you never, ever, ever forget that in the end, a win is enough.

Yeah but

I know high school teams in California and Texas that could beat SDSU. I mean it’s SDSU, not like they are a 1AA powerhouse or anything. Wait maybe they aren’t that bad. They didn’t get killed by Delaware or Illinois State either so maybe they are pretty good.

by anti-husker on Sep 26, 2010 9:27 AM CDT up reply actions

So what?

Nebraska had a flat game…it happens, even to top teams. How do you explain USC losing to Washington last year? Or Virginia Tech losing to James Madison? Or Nebraska losing to Iowa State last season even with Suh?

SDSU had a roster full of guys who weren’t quite good enough to be offered a scholarship from Nebraska but grew up dreaming of playing in memorial stadium. This was there one chance, and they came ready to play the game of their lives…and for the most part they did. Nebraska on the other hand simply came out flat and never got it going.

by Billgrip on Sep 26, 2010 9:31 AM CDT up reply actions

Luckily our horribly flat game happened against a team that didn’t have the talent to beat us no matter what.

by Billgrip on Sep 26, 2010 9:39 AM CDT up reply actions

Well let's see

USC lost to Washington because their corners filled cover 2 on the wide side while the offside LB played the deep middle. Sarkesian studied film of Corp in high school at Orange Lutheran, believe it or not and saw that Aaron Corp constantly started with reads on the free safety but never checked to the corners no matter the set. So you will see that his average was low because he couldn’t get the ball down the middle. And when he did look down the middle he saw a LB and had no F****** clue what the hell was going on. Oh by the way he sucked anyway.

VTU losing to james madison? Overrated to begin with but after having BSU sucker punch ya in the gut…..they gave up. Look at the defense now? They got kids playing that never saw the field and they want it more. Not saying East Carolina or Boston Coll is that good though.

NU losing to Iowa state? do you really want to ask me that? And what do you mean with Suh? You ever look at how many level 2 sacks that guy had? Hmm. Most were outside the tackles and were the result of Crick busting the middle forcing the QB to run. Hmmmm, I know you’ll get pissed about that because logic and stats will completely f**k up you guys.

SDSU has a roster full of kids that wanted to play @ NU? I bet you just know most of those kids so you can make that statement? Well let’s look at the numbers shall we? It looks like about 13 or so kids are from nebraska and I can pretty much guarantee that if you aren’t from nebraska you probably aren’t dreaming about Lincoln. And as for those 13 or so, I don’t know let’s just 3, F******G 3 of them may have seen the field. WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? ARE YOU F******G NUTS. GET OFF YOUR DAMN HIGH HORSE MAN!

What you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Ok

So the idiotic statement about the 13 kids on the SDSU roster and how all of them wanted to be huskers? Um, I think you know which statement was idiotic.

Or the comment about Aaron Corp? Those are the facts MISTER!

Or about VTU? Um, that was directly from one of their players and an assistant coach.

Or the statement about how Suh got all of his sacks? Check it out man, check it out. Just take a gander at how many sacks he had between the tackles and how many when the QB was pushed. Just look man, just look.

Something is wrong in the Locker Room ...Wisconsin had no problem?? what is the deal

Something is going on in the locker room and reporters are missing the story, they need to mine their sources , instead carrying water for the coaches.

Hint: Blackshirts and the stubbourness of Bo Pelini in holding this over players heads
Hint: Zac Lee and the glaring injustice of him not being the #2 guy
Hint: The competition day in and day out has tired the players , especially when they see some hypocrisy from coaches.

Something is wrong….Wisconsin defeats Austin Peay no problem…Nebraska sideline according to Cody Green was dead…Why? where is the reporting…

Hint: Unity Council for your story

by Bug Eater on Sep 26, 2010 4:00 PM CDT reply actions

I think u got something there

Bo’s expression during this entire game….although its normally an uncomfortable one :)

Something says…these boys are making a statement to me…the players are bucking the system?
Am I crazy (me, not BO)? what is going on in the Locker Room?

Yes…..I have been a Zac Lee Disbeliever for a year now….however…….I recognize when it is a good time to put in the Tenured player when its necessary. 4th Qtr, Unless Zac has an injury we dont know about?

by Pornhusker on Sep 26, 2010 10:13 PM CDT up reply actions

Also getting frustrated about Lee

I think he deserves a chance to help be a leader, and because he’s been bumped to #3 I’m not sure that will even work anymore. Martinez has lots of skill but doesn’t seem to have any control.

by davereid on Sep 26, 2010 10:40 PM CDT up reply actions

Huh?

What are you trying to say? Nebraska comes out flat in one game against an FCS team and that’s evidence that the Pelinis have a mutiny on their hands? Come on, man, that’s just silly.

by Cheeseandcorn on Sep 26, 2010 11:32 PM CDT up reply actions

Also

Noticed it’s your first post here – sorry, didn’t mean to come off that harsh. I just don’t think there’s any real evidence of any sort of revolt against Pelini at this point. As for whether the local reporters carry Pelini’s water, they’d vehemently argue otherwise, but they sure seem awfully deferent whenever they talk to or about Bo.
