Breaking Down The Top Three Quarterbacks

Corn_medium

Heading into this season the quarterback battle is one of the most talked about position battles for the Huskers. Many people think that Taylor Martinez has earned the starting nod. While others like the experience of Zac Lee and some are still are hoping that Cody Green can take the next step and develop into a game changer. Lets break down the three guys who are battling it out.

Cody Green

Cody came to campus with a lot of hype and impressed coaches early on his freshman year. That early promise eventually earned him 2 starts one against Baylor and the other against Oklahoma. Since that early promise Cody has not developed at the pace expected and has quickly dropped probably to 3 on the depth chart. With all this there have even been whispers on campus that Cody may be thinking about transferring.

Taylor Martinez

Taylor Martinez has become somewhat of a fan favorite. He has shown impressive speed and running ability and his passing seems to be improving by the day. Martinez has probably played the best so far in camp and has been getting a lot of reps. The main knock on him is his lack of experience. Is his upside higher than his risk? Many think yes but these are the exact same questions the coaching staff is asking.

Zac Lee

Zac Lee has been recovering from offseason surgery but has looked good. The biggest thing Zac has is experience and his great performance against Arizona in the bowl game. All along it has been Zac's job to loose but the push that Taylor Martinez is making has put Zac on the hot seat.

One thing to keep in mind is that whoever starts against Western Kentucky may not be the same guy that starts vs Washington. It is possible Bo sends Taylor Martinez out there for a ceremonial start with a couple series to reward him for his hard work in camp.
