Two sources said Missouri is eagerly hoping for an invitation from the Big Ten, while Nebraska appears to be on the fence about whether to hold out for a possible Big Ten invitation or move back to the table with the nine schools who are determined to keep the Big 12 alive.
There is a belief among the majority of schools that the Big 12 could survive if it just lost Missouri, the sources said. But the sense is the Big 12 is dead if it loses both Missouri and Nebraska.

Kirk Bohls adds this...
Nebraska and Missouri have been given an ultimatum by the Big 12 and told they have until this Friday to decide if they want to remain in the conference or entertain the possibility of joining the Big Ten, two highly placed officials of two Big 12 schools have told the Statesman. The deadline was given to the pair of schools by the Big 12 presidents during the league meetings held in Kansas City this last week. "Nebraska has until 5 p.m. on Friday to tell us what they’re going to do," one school official said, adding that he has heard it is a possibility they could extend that deadline to June 15. "The same deal for Missouri. They have to tell us they’re not going to the Big Ten or …"
I'm assuming
Nebraska would have to have a pretty firm commitment from the Big Ten that an invite is coming in order for them to not give a vote of confidence to the Big 12. Otherwise, that is an insanely risky bet that could go catastrophically awry.
Which means Harvey and Tom are going to be awaiting some very important phone calls after the Big Ten’s meeting on Sunday.
I keep wondering whenever I hear this.....
What leverage does the Big 12 have over us? Sure, Texas can blow up the conference, but then again, so can we. I’m pretty sure both schools will land on their feet when the dust settles.
Despite the fact that I hope the Big 12 DOES stick together, regardless of UT’s arrogance and general asshattery, it just seems dumb that they (Big 12, Texas, its not like there’s a difference) could give us an ultimatum like this.
"My hardest job is to convince the people of Nebraska that 10-1 is not a losing season." - Tom Osborne
What are they going to do? Kick us out?
Then I’d assume they’d try to add a school (or two, if Missouri gives Beebe the ol’ finger too). Utah and TCU? I’m sure all the remaining North schools would be just “thrilled” with that. And what’s the point of all that? Just to prove a point that the Big 12 wasn’t bluffing?
I know Delany has said it’ll take time before they make a move, but you know decisions can be made much quicker than what he’s saying. The only question, in my opinion, is if the Big 11 will do NU and MU the courtesy of expediting that process. I don’t see them having any reason to do NU and MU any favors, unless they really want those schools.
The ultimatum is that...
…if Nebraska (and Mizzou) don’t give the Big 12 a vote of confidence, the South schools and Colorado will go to the Pac-10, as it sounds like those invitations really are going to be extended. Is it fair that NU and MU get the ultimatum, when it could just as easily have been given to UT/TAMU/OU/OSU/CU? Maybe, maybe not, but remember that it was NU’s and MU’s administrators who started this problem by openly saying they would entertain offers from the Big 10.

I think the problem was started...
… when the rumors came out that the Big 11 was considering expansion. All Osborne has said was that he’d listen if they called. How can you not listen when you can double your income, guaranteed, by moving to a different conference? Missouri has been pretty vocal about wanting to jump the the Big 11. Colorado, I think, has the same kind of stance as NU, saying that hey, we’re not joined at the hip with the Big XII.
If the ultimatum is as you say, then it’s NU and MU’s decision whether or not the conference stays together. If they go, everyone goes – if they stay, everyone stays. It’s probably fair that it’s issued to NU and MU. We’re the first rumored to go, and we’re the one’s with the guaranteed green ($$$) pastures on the other side of the fence.
I’m glad the decision isn’t mine to make, because you’d have to feel sorry for KU, KSU, ISU, and BU/CU, if 8 teams jump ship when the other teams were fine with the Big XII.
I’m going to laugh when this all results in nothing changing. Just a big game of chicken where everyone flinches.
plz
whereas it was OK for the Texas prez to quietly communicate with Gee about this very same thing? The only reason NU and MU admin “entertained” this is because they were the ones the Big Ten was interested in along with UT. Nebraska and Mizzou will handle this on their own time schedules, regardless of ultimatums.
It was OK for the UT president...
…to communicate about it because Nebraska and Missouri had already created the situation where the rest of the Big 12 had to consider what it would do if the conference fell apart. Read Chip Brown’s articles. Nine of the Big 12 schools left the conference meetings in Kansas City last week with a firm commitment to the conference’s future. Texas was one of the nine. Nebraska was one of the three. So yes, it’s entirely fair that the onus is now on Nebraska.

Gee's email talking about his conversation with Texas
was from April 20th. That’s before the NU/MU talk. I would say it is more likely Texas was the first Big 12 school to entertain jumping ship.

Gee and Powers are friends.
Powers had a short phone conversation with a friend. Was he supposed to let it ring because Gee’s in a different conference.
Not at all,
but Nebraska shouldn’t be treated like a cheating spouse for doing the same thing.

I suppose the difference is that Nebraska is openly acknowledging interest in leaving.
Texas, on the other hand, is repeatedly stating they prefer to stay in the Big XII as is.
Send 'em back to the SWC or Pac10
I rather like the idea of skipping town to the B10/11. I’m really pretty much fed up with Texas throwing their $$$ and arrogance around. Everything in the conference has steadily drifted south since its inception. I don’t see this stopping until the center of the conference is in Austin.
I also hope UT and the other 5 down south end up in the P10 – Texas and University of Spoiled Children deserve each other.

Is there
any concrete evidence that Nebraska is going to the Big 10? To me it doesn’t really matter I think the next five years for Nebraska should be very successful no matter the conference. If we jump to the Big 10 or stay put in the Big XII I am exicited to watch the Huskers play football. I can’t help but think that Osborne still has a bone to pick over joining the Big XII in the first place. Plus, college football is all about money and if you follow that and we do get an offer from the Big 10 we more than likely take it. Then all the Texas haters can default to Ohio State and Michigan to blame for all our troubles.
This is going to be a fun week...
First, Teddy Greenstein of the Chicago Tribune tweets the following
Jim Delany: “The timeline could be affected.” In other words, it will be affected.
http://twitter.com/TeddyGreenstein/status/15579306196
Then ESPN’s Big 10 Blogger Adam Rittenberg tweeted the following
Big Ten presidents can vote on expansion electronically. Don’t need to be in same place.
http://twitter.com/ESPN_BigTen/status/15578247528
So with an electronic vote and anytime, we’ll never know for sure what could be happening until it happens. But my guess is that this could go all the way until Friday afternoon.
Could be fax...could even be Twitter...
Or they have an electronic meeting room that they already use for issues…
So...
So what happens if NU and Mizzou give the confernece a vote of confidence and then jump ship?

If I were
Pearlman and TO I’d jump to the Big 10/11 and if nothing more than for the $$$$ from the TV contract. TexASS runs the Big 12 and let them figure it out when MU and NU bolt.
Of course we’ll all gripe about the same thing with OSU, the Stink Weasels and Notre Dame (if they join) running an expanded Big 10.

It's Just Poker...
From Bebee to Dodds to his flunkies, it’s all a game of poker and Nebraska has more chips at this point. I say call their bluff. Actually it may be more a game of “Jenga!”…

ESPN
is reporting that Nebraska and Missouri have been invited to join the Big 10.
It is on
the ticker line on the bottum of the screen. I am sorry they are getting it from WHB but it is still on ESPN. Which we all know could mean nothing but with all the ultimatum stuff I would imagine that something will have to be done pretty quickly.
