If Texas left...
…the Big 12 would fall apart. I’d be careful about being so happy to let them leave.

Like It Isn't Falling Apart Already?
A few things to consider:
K-State’s Athletic Dept. finances are a mess (the buyout scandal).
Iowa State’s finances are a mess (had to drop baseball several years ago).
Colorado’s finances are a mess (can’t even buy out Dan Hawkins).
A&M’s finances are a mess (poor bookkeeping. Nice job, Dollar Bill).
KU and Mizzou’s finances are OK, but not great (mostly basketball bringing in the cash).
T. Boone Pickens is Okie State’s sugar daddy.
FYI:
In the days of the old Big 8, all the TV and bowl money was divided evenly among the 8 schools. When the Big 12 was formed, the rule was changed to where the participating school of said TV/bowl game got the lion’s share of the money and the rest got what table scraps that were leftover (trickle-down Reaganomics). The vote was 11-1. The lone dissenter…..Nebraska.
Three guesses as to who was twisting the arms of the other schools (K-State included) and the first two are free.
You saying that the Big 12 would fall apart if Texas left is probably the exact mindset they want. They want the rest of the conference to kiss their a**. But Nebraska has never kissed Texas’s a** AND WE SURE AS HELL AREN’T GOING TO START NOW!!!
Besides, if they leave, who’s to stop them? Let’s call their bluff.

I want to see where you found that the revenue sharing vote...
…was 11-1 with Nebraska as the lone dissenter. I know that the partial qualifiers and conference championship game votes were 11-1, but I’ve never seen that the revenue sharing vote was 11-1. I’m not saying you’re wrong, but I’ve never seen that vote.
Anyway, that’s an odd argument to be making from a Nebraska standpoint. First of all, UNL disproportionately benefits from the current unequal revenue sharing arrangment. Second, you could have the arrangment changed at the next Big 12 meetings if you so chose. It takes nine votes to change the Big 12 bylaws, and I can guarantee you there would be eight schools that would be more than happy to have you add your vote into the mix to change the revenue sharing.
Just because Texas wants us to think the Big 12 would fall apart if they left doesn’t mean it’s not true. If you want to believe otherwise, that’s your prerogative.

If you would actually read the original article, you would know that Dr. Tom was answering a question (from Steve Sipple, sports writer at Lincoln Journal Star). It’s not like he was pulling a Mizzery and holding press conferences announcing they were interested in leaving. He simply said, no one has contacted us, but if someone did, we’d listen.
Let's just get the Big-10 thing over with via a dating service...

I have to agree with the opinion here that the revenue sharing in the Big-12 is bass-ackwards and that reason alone might keep Texas in the conference. The ‘Danger’ to the big 12 would be Nebraska, Kansas, and Missouri all going to the Big 10 (making a 14 team, geographically contiguous conference)
