Well I guess the fat lady is finished singing. OU wins another Big 12 title with a great comeback, thanks to "Sooner Magic" (or incredibly sloppy offensive play by NU). When the score was 17-0 I was thinking "wow, good thing I put that disclaimer in my prediction about a blowout!". I guess Switzer lent his bag of Sooner Magic to Stoops today, but judging by all the NU turnovers I'd say it was full of bad juju for the Huskers!
Offensively the Sooners dominated yardage wise, 455 to 294. Landry Jones, as I predicted and was ridiculed for, passed for over 300 yards. I know I sound like a homer, and I am, but Jones is the best passing Qb in the Big 12. NU had a great deal of success running the ball, but their passing game was a disaster. OU's gameplan of making NU one dimensional worked to a T. I guess one perspective could be that NU killed itself with all the turnovers, but another perspective would be that OU moved the ball consistently and forced turnovers. OU's defense really played great today, except for the shifty runs by Burkhead and that 66 yard scamper by Helu. I think if Martinez had more experience and NU could take away the worst plays, the score probably would've been in the Huskers favor.
I was surprised NU seemed to abandon the power inside running game so early, especially since they had so much success with it. Henery, as a lot of you guys told me, is a stud. Great punter and outplayed Tress Way badly tonight, not to mention a great kicker. Burkhead is a real stud. If he'd have started the game instead of Martinez NU might've won.
Sorry you guys went out on a negative note. I've had some great interactions with Husker fans over the years and wish you guys the best of luck in the Big 10. Without OU or Texas to challenge you, I predict it'll be NU/OSU every year up there. Hopefully we'll meet a few times in the National Title game, or in other future bowl games. It's been a blast playing against you guys, and I'll miss the heart stopping games. Good luck noble opponents!
