BlogPoll College Football Ranking Top 25 Week 14: Would Auburn Beat Oregon? (If They Faked Injuries For A Whole Game, maybe.)
Auburn - I so wanted them to lose to Alabama, and it looked so good in the first half. At the end of the first half - it's 24-7 Alabama, and they've out-gained Auburn 379 yards to 87. How could Nick Saban fail so miserably?
So - do you demote Auburn for going down so badly to Alabama, or give them credit for an incredible comeback?
I don't think it's a demotion to keep them #2 behind Oregon. Oregon blasted a tough Arizona team - a team that's had a good offense this season. In fact, I don't see anyone beating Oregon... well, unless you're Auburn and you'll do anything to win a national title, which would include faking injuries throughout an entire game to slow down the Duck's Burn offense.
I watched Wisconsin. Holy cow - it's tough to argue that they're not the best team in the nation. They'd win a home field-based playoff system if we had one.
Boise State - I dropped like a rock. It's a tough life, guys, sorry, but you blew it and when you don't play a lot of higher-ranked teams, you get hammered when you lose to a good one.
Feedback welcome!

BCS has Mizzou higher than us
For a couple of reasons-
We lost to a 5-7 team and a 9-3 team.
They lost to a 10-2 team (us) and a 7-5 team.
We also lost later in the season and didn’t have enough games left to make up for it. But a win over Oklahoma this week, and we’ll be back in the top 10.
But a loss to Oklahoma...
And we probably fall below Oklahoma State and Texas A&M unfortunately, and the wins over Oklahoma State and Mizzouri don’t mean much anymore as far as our ranking goes.
There is a very good possibility
that when all things are said and done, after the big12 champ and bowl game, Nebraska could finish the season in the top 4 or 5.
But I’m a bit worried about next Saturday after seeing Oklahoma last week.
Darn it, Herpie,
After your almost spot-on prediction of the CU-NU score last week, I was hoping for more confidence from you for the Championship game.
I’m liking our chances against the Sooners, especially with our new weapon, a passing Burkhead.
Funny thing
I was pretty damn close with the Bedlam game, too. Two lucky guesses is what that was ; )
I’m not necessarily worried about the game for any reason other than how bad I wan’t the huskers to win and walk away with that trophy. If it was just any other game, I would say I like our chances and I like that matchup.

Is Burkhead really a new weapon?
One throw looked like it was out of desperation and a man just opened up in the end zone so he tossed it instead of taking a loss on the play. The other was classic wildcat yet it was a very well tossed ball. I just don’t see it being a part of the game plan going into this Saturday especially considering it debuted against Colorado.
Actually
Burkhead played some QB in high school, so he knows how to throw the ball. His ‘desperation’ TD pass Saturday was a designed pass play to the right side – when it wasn’t open, he ran to the opposite side of the field, waited for a man to get open, then tossed it to him. That’s not a fluke, nor is it desperation. It’s brilliant.
You’re right that Rex’s passing probably won’t be a big part of the gameplan next week, but if the Huskers catch the OU D cheating up against Wildcat formations, they’ve certainly shown they’re able to keep the Sooners honest.

Not to mention that Burkhead could have picked his poison on that shorter TD pass.
The reason the man came open was Burkhead was a threat to run for the score. It might have been improvised, but Burkhead kept his head (pun intended) and made something out of what looked like nothing. They don’t call him Superman for nothing.

I am in no means questioning his ability to throw the ball
I was just wondering. I didn’t get a chance to watch much of the game due to the Bama/Auburn game being much tighter with more national implications and on at the same time. So I instead caught the highlights later and just from the vantage point I had is what I based my opinion and thought off of. All I can say is I hope this game is a no holds barred fight to the finish of the Big XII where every wrinkle is exposed.
The thing I like
about Burkhead is that, being two-for-two with his arm, it puts that little question mark in the defender’s brains and perhaps freezes them up for a second or two.
Another thing I love about #22 is he epitomises all of the things that brought success to the Huskers for decades…that straight-ahead, pound the ball, keep the legs churning attitude, and a heart ten times bigger than the state he hails from.
And, in the few weeks he’s been involved in the wildcat, he seems to recognize defenses well, and makes smart decisions.
You are right about the thought being in the heads of the defenders.
Especially after watching hours of film and probably covering the 2 plays more than once to make sure the defense knows what the formation looks like and who is on the field. I just hope the Sooners don’t bite in the chance we do see Burkhead throw some passes. We all know the Sooners have a young secondary and even Quentin Carter has been known to bite on the run and let the deep ball go. Scary thought if the Huskers run it to perfection a mere two times this Saturday with Burkhead.
Wow!
Glad to see someone had the guts to put Boise below Nevada in their blogpoll. I just wish more of the people who have a say in the matter would have felt the same way!
LSU below
Nebraska, Missouri, Nevada, OK State and VTU? Are you nuts? They lose to Auburn and Arkansas…..
