Niles Paul Out for Colorado Game, Season?
Just read this on the Associated Press Wire:
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - No. 16 Nebraska will be without senior wide receiver and kick returner Niles Paul as it tries to win the Big 12 North title.
Head coach Bo Pelini says Paul hurt a foot at practice on Tuesday and will miss Friday's game against Colorado. Paul's status for the rest of the season is in doubt.
Paul has 39 catches for 516 yards and one touchdown after 11games this season. He leads the team in receptions. Paul also has returned 16 kicks for 403 yards, including a 100-yard return for a touchdown against Oklahoma State.
Great ... just great.
UPDATE:
The Omaha World-Herald reports that it's a broken foot, and that it's potentially season-ending.
The senior wide receiver suffered a broken foot at practice Tuesday, three sources close to the situation said.
Paul is expected to miss at least a month, according to the sources. That includes Paul's Senior Day, the regular-season finale Friday against Colorado, and a potential trip to the Big 12 championship game.

This season
Is crashing down around us. I really wouldn’t be surprised if we lose this week…but we’ll probably win our bowl game just due to the fact that Pelini is 3-0 in bowls and pretty much rocks when he’s given extra time to prepare his team for an opponent.
Bill...Get a Grip
There is plenty of talent on this team to suck it up and send CU back to Boulder with an embarrassing loss.
They just have to stop all the damn bitching and moaning and go out there and execute.

I would really like to know if the offensive and defensive players have different conditioning regimens.
The number of injuries Nebraska has suffered on offense have been staggering. In 2009 the Huskers sustained injuries to the starting QB, top two IBs, and nearly the whole offensive line (although there was not enough depth to keep most of them out). In 2010 we have lost the top two QBs, top WR, and a couple of key linemen. The only injuries on defense I can think of were Thenarse in 2009 and Fisher and Compton in 2010. Both years the defense didn’t miss a beat.
Is it typical for most teams to sustain many more injuries to offensive players? There ought to be statistics on this somewhere.
Reporter: "What would it take to get you to spend three or four days outside, on concrete?"
Joe Paterno: "Depends what she looks like."
Statistically...
Offensive players are much more prone to injury (hunted vs hunter). This season for Nebraska is really no different, especially when you consider how all of the injuries have taken place.
Taylor Martinez – tweaked ankle, hurt on a tackle against Mizzou, reinjured when stepped on by an offensive lineman against A&M.
Niles Paul / Will Compton – broken foot that occurred in practice.
Sean Fisher – broken leg that occurred in practice.
Zac Lee – I am inclined to think that he reinjured his throwing arm in the same fashion he did last year.
So I don’t think it has so much to do with training as it does that freak things can happen.

Tough break, but not enough to ruin the season.
I expect our defense to lock down Colorado Friday afternoon – a shutout wouldn’t surprise me in the least. This is not going to be a pretty ballgame – think second half of the season from last year. Hopefully the line, Burkhead and Helu are ready for a bruiser of a game: if so, we roll over the Buffs with all the speed and finesse of a road roller.

His foot? Did he drop something on it?
Sorry.
Now Paul. Already the issues at QB. I don’t know if it will be a factor, but I wonder if the backlash against Bo and Carl’s behavior will have an affect on the game. We’ve already seen that the team has a hard time getting fired in Lincoln. And, of course, CU is a different team than there were a month ago. I know the world doesn’t revolve around me, but I just moved to Denver and I’ve been invited to watch the game with a bunch of Buffs and Rams and all sorts of other antiHuskers and I have a very, very bad feeling about all of this.
I agree that the Blackshirts will dominate and that it won’t be pretty, but, seriously, how much uglier can our offense get at this point? I have a nasty feeling we’re going to find out.
Niles
I am sorry your senior year appears to be finished. We are grateful you played for NU. I believe you have given all you had to the team and tried your best to be a great blocker, return man, and receiver. Thank you for your time at NU! Enjoy senior day and please be a leader on the sidelines during the remainder of the season and impart any wisdom you have from your time at NU to the younger WRs before your departure.
Tough break
the guy deserved to be able to run out there on that field one more time and play.
Yep. And I agree with JimmytheRed--thanks, Niles!

It may be a given, but
Anyone who is going to the game this weekend should cheer extra loud for Paul Through all the crap that he has going through this season, and probably last, he deserves the recigition (sp? I can’t spell to save my life). For a moment for get about all the bad stuff ie; drop balls, brushes with the LPD, and that stuff, and let him know he is a Husker. I also think that goes without saying too for all the other seniors and the rest of the players that they are our team.
With all the crap they’ve been through, they deserve atleast that much. What has happened is in the past and we need to move forward and support our guys thick and thin. Just like the 1995 off field issues, Friday is gameday and should only be gameday. We have an entire off season to critique and go over with a fine tooth comb of what could have, should have, and would have happened. But for now, we are Nebraska and let’s show our pride on Friday and be as loud as humanly possible.
That’s all I go, Go Big Red.
