Nebraska won. Kansas didn't look bad. You spent $39.95. Did you get your money's worth? Do I sound cynical?
It's a Husker win, maybe I shouldn't be so bad about it, but this game was a turd. Worst of all, it was boring. There was no thread of a loss, really. There was no threat of a blowout.
The only time during the entire game at which Nebraska got aggressive on offense was in the last minute of the game. Meh.
Welcome to the night. May things find us having more fun than we just did.

Well, if it goes every other game
We’re due for a great game next week, a poor game against Colorado that we’d probably still win, and then a great game in the Big 12 championship! And then for the BCS bowl, we’ll have a lot of time to prepare and Bo seems to be very very good at preparing with extra time.
We're all happy because we won
but not being consistent is going to catch up with us soon!!!!

Against Texas…I mean I wouldn’t be super surprised to see us lose another game this season, but at the same time all the rest look very winnable. I still hope OU can beat Oklahoma State and we get to face them in the Big 12 championship.

This is what sucks about being a good team
You expect to roll over everyone and then all of the sudden a 20-3 victory looks really bad. I think we just need to remember that a win is a win and…whatever, life goes on.

I think you are over-reacting
Auburn is ranked 2nd and they were getting beat by Georgia who is 5-5 and lost to Colorado earlier this season. They got the win, and that’s all that mattered.
Oregon is struggling with a mediocre Cal team right now. But if they win, that’s all that matters.

Our defense played really well, but our offense struggled. Things just didn’t work out tonight. Martinez was clearly not as explosive as usual. Our offense just didn’t finish drives. They dominated the game statistically and in time of possession. This game could have easily been the blowout everyone thought it would be, but it was still a 17 point win and Kansas was never really threatening after we scored our first TD.

Here's how you gotta look at this game
A very inspired Kansas team fresh off of the largest comeback victory in school history came up to Lincoln. Taylor Martinez isn’t quite himself yet, and he had a “freshman” game as far as passing went.
Everyone seems to be overlooking the fact that our defense PLAYED OUTSTANDING. Sure, it was a very poor Kansas team, but anytime you hold a team to 87 total yards (only 15!!! passing yards), 5 first downs, and 3 points…that is freaking incredible. I don’t know how many sacks we had, but I’m pretty sure we aren’t going to be ranked 100 something in tackles for loss anymore. Our defense played the best game we’ve seen all season, but everyone is crying because T-magic didn’t break an 80 yard run. Who cares! We won the game, our defense rocks, and we can still accomplish all our goals (aside from beating Texas).
Also
Our offense may have only scored 20 points, but they actually only needed to score 4 points to win the game. Statistically they had a good game, 397 total yards, 230 rushing yards…but what prevented this game from being a 35-3 victory was 6 penalties for 54 yards and 2 turnovers.

The offense got yet another wake-up call that they can’t just roll over everyone easily. They have to stay mentally focussed, avoid turnovers, and do their jobs. No one is going to hand them a W.
Perhaps this late season wake-up call in a game that we couldn’t really possibly lose is just what the doctor ordered. I think they’ll be fine next week at A&M, and they will dominate Colorado. Colorado sucks on the road and our crowd should be in it just because it’s Colorado and they are sort of a rival that we’d all really like to beat one last time.

deeply and imensely. And I totally agree with your post at 9:15 p.m. The defense played outstanding ball, we had at least 5 sacks, we won.
And what Bo has done in his first experience as a head coach is so impressive. While Dr. Tom took over a team that had won two nat. championships, Bo was stuck with the dregs of the Callahan years.

That reminds me of the farmer from down the road from us when we lived in Nebraska. He had a ’74 Ford that he drove through the sandhills about as fast as he drove down the highway. The thing leaned to one side and dogtracked bad going down the highway, but that sucker would go just about anywhere and it was only two wheel drive!
He was a good friend and it was sad to hear that he had passed on several years ago. I think he’s probably still driving that truck. :)

with Wisconsin running up the score. 83 – 20 are you kidding me. Isn’t that the same team that went for 2 when they were head 60something to 12?
Believe it or not, he really wasn’t “running up the score” short of kneeling on every play in the 4th, Purdue couldn’t stop them. They were using their 4th string running back for the last 18 minutes of game time.

I quit watching
around half….can’t remember why. I was just suprised to see 83 as a football score. Espically since Indiana almost won against Iowa last week.
It was fairly brutal. Wisky just kept running essentially dive plays and Indiana couldn’t/wouldn’t stop them.

The TD pass was on a broken third-and-long play with the backup QB. He was supposed to dump it off, but got pressured, scrambled around, then found a guy running all by himself behind the defense. I could see the outrage if they had called a deep pass play, but that’s not what happened at all.

That is the MOST inaccurate thing you’ve ever clicked the “post” button on! They ran a 3 WR set (2 left, 1 right), a designed roll out to the left (the back came up to block for the pass) to draw the defense over to the left, the route on the right was a designed go or post- they threw it that way! Hell, the route was so long the quarterback couldn’t throw it long enough!
I didn’t see it live but I just watched it on ESPN3 (2:48:40) so I could make a more educated response (believing I may have been wrong since YOU called me out on it).
1. It obviously wasn’t broken
2. It obviously wasn’t supposed to be a dumpoff, there were no routes shorter than 15 yards.
3. He didn’t scramble at all.
4. It was a deep pass play all the way.

I didn’t remember the back staying in to block. I did watch the play, but I don’t have access to ESPN3, so I can’t go back and watch it again. It seemed pretty clear to me watching it live that the QB was flushed out of the pocket, but I can’t really confirm that without watching the play again.
Anyway, I acknowledged in the earlier thread that Bielema sometimes coaches like an a-hole, including a few times during the fourth quarter of yesterday’s game, but I really don’t believe this is the scandal everyone’s making it out to be. The only reason this game got people fired up is because Wisconsin hit 80, and the drive on which they hit 80 was about as conservative a drive as they come. Third-string QB, fourth-string RB, running every single play. If they can’t stop you, what are you supposed to do, fall down?

The play call on the TD run
that they scored 80 on was a good, end-of-the-game play call. The play that they broke into the 70s on, on 3rd and 6 was the worst show of sportsmanship in the modern era IMO. You’re right on that play – it wasn’t a scramble, it was a designed roll left.
But “worst show of sportsmanship in the modern era”? Don’t you think that’s overstating things by quite a bit? Worse than this or this or this? Come on – it’s not even in the same ballpark as those incidents.
Wisconsin threw three passes in the fourth quarter, all with the backup quarterback. One of them ended up being a low blow (and having seen it again, I’m not going to defend the play-call). But let’s not turn this into some crime against humanity.

however, the USC/UCLA game could have been competitive given a small miracle- slick Pete was trying to run out the clock, Skippy wouldn’t let him.
Corrected: this was the worst show of sportsmanship in the modern era, that couldn’t be penalized, IMO.
I’m sure Bielema is well respected within the coaching community… I wonder if he hates puppies and pushes old ladies down. ;)

I’ll take it. A win is a win. We had 400 yards to their anemic 87, the d-line got great pressure and kept everything in front of them.
Now to put the secondary back to work next weekend.

While you’re here Jon, I’d like to ask you to put a permanent link up for the Lowes Senior Class Award voting for Sydney Anderson. She’s still leading, but it’s a little too close for comfort, and there’s only a few weeks left. I’d do it myself, but I still don’t know how to do links.
It only takes about 15 seconds to vote, but we need everyone to do it every day. I, myself, have the address in my favorites list, which makes it easy to remember.
