Missouri had "spur of the moment win"...

(1) Jackson was Missouri’s best returning receiver going in to this season, but he broke his hand right before the Illinois game.

(2) Every other team has thought Missouri’s receivers were average too. “We’ll just shut down Moe and Egnew and that will take care of Missouri’s passing game.” Not so quick, Kemp is 6’4" 220 and, as I said, Jackson was Missouri’s leading returning receiver. I’d say that Missouri has four very good recievers (not great) and that unless you have four very good d-backs, you’re not going to slow Gabbert down. After all, Missouri has four receivers with over 300 yards and 27+ catches.

(3) “Missouri hasn’t yet run the ball well.” What?!?!?! They’re averaging 4.4 yards per carry and average 140 per game and they just had 180 versus Okla. Yes you guys average 6.6 per running play, but that’s your bread and butter and, without the KState game it’d be MUCH lower. So is Missouri a running powerhouse? No, but they’ll spread you out, occupy your linebackers and get more than enough to make the run relevant.

(4) If I were you I’d be VERY concerned about your offense. If OkSt -with their absolutely dreadful defense - can get four tackles for loss what do you think Missouri is going to do to you? I can say without hesitation, that Missouri’s front four (six if you include those rotating in) is one of the top five groups in the country. Probably better than Texas for the down lineman (certainly have more sacks). Yes, they lost a starting defensive tackle in the first quarter Saturday, but did it seem to have any impact? So the question becomes how are you going to rush against Missouri if Oklahoma couldn’t? Yes, Oklahoma move the ball through the air in the first half, but Martinez isn’t Jones when it comes to passing. Plus, in the second half Jones was atrocious.

(5) The game on Saturday will be close, but I think you’re underselling Missouri’s receivers and failing to identify just how tough things will be for your offense. I predict a 24 – 17 victory for Missouri.

1) Moot point, recruit better if you’re missing him..

2) Lucky us! We have 6 very good defensive backs! However, they have forgotten how to wrap up lately.. boo us.

3) Since we’re taking games away, take away Miami of Ohio and you’re rushing ypc would be lower than 4.4… Probably somewhere in the high 3s. hmm..

4) I am VERY excited about our offense. Its multiple. Take something away and we’ll go to something else. EPIC FAIL in the Texas game where our receivers DROPPED 4 or 5 TD passes, they weren’t broken up by the “best secondary in the country” they were DROPPED.

Oklahoma [moved] the ball through the air in the first half, but Martinez isn’t Jones when it comes to passing.

…Martinez is actually a better passer (more efficient) than Jones AND Gabbert. And he’s an ‘ok’ runner too which can help the passing IF his slow ass could ever pick up a couple yards on a scramble.. fucking fast!

5) Sorry, I may be a big homer.. But, Nebraska will win dominate this one. Huskers 51, Misery 24 ..get used to a one loss season. Lost out on the B10 to the Huskers, they’ll lose out on a perfect season to the Huskers too.

Read more carefully...

We’re not missing Jackson, he led the team in receiving against OU. I mentioned him because the Corncaster’s seemed to think he was a flash-in-the-pan that came out of nowhere.

Your suggestion that Martinez is more efficient than Gabbert and Jones is silly. He’s thrown the ball 111 times, Gabbert has thrown it 181 times…apples and oranges…by the way even thought he’s thrown significantly more passes, he has a FAR higher completion percentage (67 versus 59).

51 to 24…ur completely insane, not a homer.

Hey, I got my stats from the NCAA

call it what you will but you have nothing to back up your statement except a completion percentage.

Guess we’ll see

His prediction is insane

And your refutations hold weight, but his other points (you can’t cherry-pick games for one team and not the other, and Nebraska’s secondary is at least as deep as MU’s receiving corps) still stand.

Also, Nebraska is a better running team than Oklahoma. Possibly lots better, now that opponents have to plan for the pass, too.

My sniper strikes again!

Dang Cheeseandcorn you are sneaky. Just when I’m not looking- bam!

Statistically every 14th pass for Martinez is a TD, whereas it takes Gabbert about 16. While it is apple and oranges- the fact remains and personal opinion can’t change something that can be proved true or false. And it can be proved true here.

Yes, my prediction may be insane but, that’s the luxury of being a fan. I can be wrong and there are no repercussions except I look a little silly. Now, if I make a “bold” prediction and it comes to fruition- I could say I was right. Big deal!

Regardless, I think Nebraska will dominate the Tigers and will win by at least two TDs.

Wait

Being your sniper – is that a good thing or a bad thing? You’re in the Army, so that’s a good thing, right? :)

Nebraska's Secondary is deeper

To say that the Mizzou wide receiver core is as deep as the Husker secondary is just wrong. Prince is the 3rd player on the big board and 3 or 4 other DB’s will be drafted you can’t say that about Tiger recievers

RB's don't play on Sundays?

Love the podcast, guys, but I have to call you out on one thing. You said something to the effect of: “Oklahoma State usually has has really talented running backs, but they don’t end up playing on Sundays.”

Perhaps that’s true lately, but there were a couple of pretty good ones a little while back. What were there names? Hard to remember. Oh yeah, I got ’em. A couple of forgettable backs named Thurman Thomas and Barry Sanders.

Other than that though, you’re right. :)

Keep it up. Go Huskers.

by Washington Cornhusker on Oct 25, 2010 5:38 PM CDT reply actions

Yes, good point. I was going to mention Sanders, but our point was indicating the recent years, or even the past decade. One could argue that Tatum Bell was decent, as he started with the Broncos and then was traded to the Lions for Dre Bly, but he never really dominated the way that Denver wanted.

Way to keep us in check, though. We appreciate the feedback…and no disrespect to Barry Sanders or Thurman Thomas. Great running backs, but not from the past 2 decades
