Where Will Ndamukong Suh Go In the NFL Draft?
The NFL regular season has ended, and the St. Louis Rams are the lucky winners of the first overall pick in the 2010 NFL draft. That would make it a pretty sure bet that Ndamukong Suh will be headed to St. Louis unless they decide their offense is so horrid they must take Oklahoma's Sam Bradford or Notre Dame's Jimmy Clausen ahead of him. Go ahead and Google for 2010 NFL Mock Draft and see how many sites have this happening.
That would leave Suh heading for Detroit. Ugh.
Here's the 2010 NFL draft order:
1. St. Louis (1-15)
2. Detroit (2-14)
3. Tampa Bay (3-13)
4. Washington (4-12)
5. Kansas City (4-12)
I'll admit that I haven't watched as much NFL football as I used to. The past few years of writing here at CN have limited the amount of time I can spend on the NFL, and to be honest, after watching as much college football as I do, the NFL is pretty darned boring by comparison. Everyone runs the same offense, constantly recycles the same worthless coaches, and there aren't a lot of players that I'm interested in watching.
Every one of the teams listed above has fallen on hard times, otherwise they wouldn't be in the position they're in. At least St. Louis has shown some success over the years, although it's been quite a while. Perhaps Suh would be the guy that helps them turn it around in the same way he's helped at Nebraska. Suh heading to St. Louis wouldn't bother me so much because I've never hated the Rams the way I've hated some other NFL teams (i.e., Oakland). Plus, they have Adam Carriker and Josh Brown, so there's at least some attraction for Husker fans.
Detroit, on the other hand, is a wasteland and so are the Lions. They've sucked for years, and they will continue to suck because they're owned by a family who clearly doesn't have a clue nor give a damn about building a winning football team. Dominic Raiola has played there for years, as did Corey Schlesinger, but to see Suh go there would be incredibly disappointing to me.
How does one become a Detroit Lions fan, anyway?
Tampa Bay, seems to me to be the same as St. Louis except that they're close to turning things around. I know it's fun to hate on Josh Freeman, but I can see the guy becoming a decent NFL quarterback in a couple more years. Plus, the Bucs have Barrett Ruud.
Washington is another team run by an arrogant boob of a human being who's too meddlesome to ever build a decent team. Thank goodness it would take something unbelievable to happen for Suh to fall this far because there is nothing that I find remotely interesting aout the Redskins.
We've got a few months before the NFL draft comes up, and there will be plenty of discussions about Suh before then. It'll be particularly interesting for the contrarians to find something wrong about what he's done on the field the past two seasons - if you find some site posting some ludicrous spew about how Suh really isn't as all that, please be sure to send us an email and a link or create a fanpost.
Suh has been one of those players you turn on a game just to watch despite not being a Nebraska football fan. Is he good enough that he could do the same for the NFL? Could it be that this is how Detroit Lions fans are made?

Washington is my home team
I would love to have Suh here, but we really need to draft an O-lineman. We won’t though, as always were going to draft exactly what we don’t need, a flashy Wide receiver or a QB, cause our owner wants asses in the seats short term and has no desire to have longterm success. Yay for sucking! BTW, one interesting thing is that we lost to Detroit, its not often that you get to be the lone win in an other wise consecutive win-less season.
Don't be so quick
to disregard the Lions as a legit landing spot for Suh, JJ. I’m neither from there nor a fan of their team, but among the teams picking in the top five, they definitely seem to have the most reason for optimism. They’ve got one of the best young WRs in the game, and promising young RB who can catch passes in Kevin Smith, and a QB in Stafford whose rookie season included single-game records for TDs and yards passing before it ended prematurely.
Detroit also seems like the team with the most to gain from picking Suh. Their head coach is the same guy who designed and built a dominant and multifaceted defense in Tennessee around Haynesworth, a beast of a DT with an uncanny package of strength, quickness, and speed. Sound familiar?
I’m not saying any of these teams are a perfect fit for Suh – like many Huskers fans, I suppose I’d prefer Suh dropping a ways in the draft and landing with a team that either underperformed this year (e.g., Seattle) or is further along in the rebuilding process (e.g., Cleveland, Denver). But that’s not gonna happen.
St. Louis is gonna be pretty hopeless for the next 3-5 years at least, even if they do nail a 2nd-round QB pick, and none of us want to wait that long for Suh to see the postseason.
Stick him in Detroit and you’re looking at a team will have an awfully good young nucleus, along with a solid coaching staff, both of which point to short-term and long-term success.
good points
I think the thing is – are the people in charge of Detroit capable of building a decent team?
I’ve been a Packers fan my whole life, so I do pay attention to the NFC North, and it just seems that the Lions management has never really tried like hell to build a championship team.

Very good point
the buc’s were bad when in the north but the Lion’s even with the greatest running back of all time in Barry Sanders could still be considered worse. They just seem to find new and improved ways to fail in the NFL.
My money
is on St. Louis. Hi quality big men are at a premium in the NFL. Especially one as diversified as Suh. He has been compared to Sapp, put him next to Carricker for the next 10 years and you have the making of a really solid d-line to build around. It also wouldn’t surprise me to see Gerald McCoy from OU to go second another top quality d-linemen two jewels like that on the line in the same year doesn’t happen very often.
Ok I am crazy but, I look for a trade.
Ok I know this is crazy but, look for the Eagles to trade Vick and and there First Round pick to the Rams for the Number one overall pick. The Eagles need D-line help and Vick is not going to be happy playing back up for to long. And this gives the Rams a QB and a first round pick.
Make sense
no one else needs a QB but Washington and they probably will keep there pick and go with Bradford as opposed to taking all the baggage Vick would bring. Plus Shanahan needs an accurate QB to run his offense not an athletic one. I think to get the Rams to give up #1 overall they will have to give up more picks than just a first rounder and a QB that hasn’t proved he can get it done since his return.
ok you're crazy..
Im a saint louis fan, born and raised, and currently live in saint louis. We’re about 50/50 when it comes to the very idea of vick. Most here wouldnt even want to trade for him period. Let alone trade a FIRST ROUND PICK?!!? Pure insanity. The rams could get vick for a 6th rounder probably. Hell vick will probably be let go after beign shopped around. The rams will bring him into camp if he is released im sure. But i dont see us squandering our rebuilding for a washed-up QB with sub-par accuracy in a west coast offense that needs accuracy above all else…Lets stop the vick nonsense please. He’s not the answer.
