Husker Hardwood - New Years Update
Amidst all of the glee surrounding Husker football last week, the basketball team squeezed in a game against Maryland Eastern-Shore on Saturday. My apologies to anyone who was heartbroken by the lack of a game thread, but there were a few things that took my attention away from the ballers for a few days. (I'll explain below)
To recap Saturday's action, the Nebraska hoopsters shook off what appeared to be a holiday hangover by beating the UMES Hawks 74-60. The Huskers were ugly in the first half, and actually trailed midway through before taking a 4 point lead into halftime. Ryan Anderson reappeared, and led the Huskers to a much cleaner second half taking control for good. The Big Red will have to shape it up...this simply won't cut it in Big 12 play. We'll see what happens Tuesday night...
This weekend wasn't a typical post-game unwind for Husker fans. This was a chance to reflect and breakdown what turned out to be a perfect (and fitting) end to a great football season. It's the whole season, and Husker fans face an excruciatingly long wait until kick-off 2010. Breaking it all up with 3 posts about NU v. UMES didn't seem right.
Next up....emergency room visit! Yayyy!!!! What a better way to strart off the new year, than by breaking my arm X-Games style in a winter sports ramp accident! ( Sledding with my kids. ) Hitting jumps at 35 mph isn't as easy as it used to be! Hello fractured radial head, goodbye quick typing and buttoning my own pants.
So.....Even though I am down to one hand, I'll be doing the Southeastern Louisanna preview and open thread. Without any distractions from the gridiron guys, we'll be getting heavy into the breakdowns and conversations. The Huskers will likely be 12-3 heading into the A+M game on Jan. 9th, which is a solid lanching point for an NCAA tourney berth. The Aggies are 10-3 with a final cakewalk against North Dakota on Tuesday. Tuesdays home game will be the last of the non-con action for the season, so get into Basketball mode folks...it's gonna be a long winter!

thanks John..
No, I didn’t get any video, but I was thinking about how funny it would have been if I had! Although a grown man fighting back tears in front of his 3 and 4 year old girls wouldn’t have been good either…
I’m serious, we need to get behind the basketball team right away! We have #1 Kansas at home in 9 days!!!!
