I'm still fighting a nasty head cold, so I didn't do much for New Year's.... well... to be honest, I usually don't do much for New Year's. Always thought it was amateur night - the night that people who don't drink a lot decide that it's okay for them to get completely plastered all together, then puke on each other's shoes. If you happen to be around them, they'll go ahead and puke on your shoes, too.
No offense if you happen to be one of those people - you know who you are anyway.
Anyway, I thought I'd open up a New Year's Bowl Game open thread. If you want to stop by, comment on the games, what you did last night (if you can remember), and maybe what you've made for New Year's resolutions.
The Outback Bowl has already started - Northwestern vs Auburn
I can't stand Auburn. More to the point, I can't stand Gene Chizik. Plus, there's nothing like rooting for a bunch of geeks to knock off a SEC school.
The Gator Bowl is starting now - Florida State vs West Virginia
Bobby's last game - the end of an era. Say what you want about Bowden's last few years, but the man put Florida State on the map and had so many incredible teams, it's sad to see him go. I'll be rooting for the 'Noles in his last game.
Bowden coached at West Virginia years ago. In fact, he helped Marshall get back on their feet after their tragic plane crash in 1970.
Capital One Bowl - Penn State vs LSU
Will someone get Old Man Sutter out of that well? Probably not, but maybe we'll find out that Lady pushed him in there in the first place.
4:00 pm - Rose Bowl - Ohio State vs Oregon
Who's not rooting for Oregon here with the exception of Ohio State fans?
7:30 pm - Sugar Bowl - Florida vs Cincinnati
Anyone not rooting for Cincinnati?

I remember
growing up in Hattiesburg Mississippi when Southern Miss behind QB Reggie Collier (1st QB in NCAA history to rush and pass for a 1,000 yds in the same season) knocked off FSU and the class that Bobby displayed in praising USM for the win. Good luck Bobby!

This was the first year
in about 5 that I didn’t make my usual holiday stuff. I usually make 10lbs of fudge, 15 different cookies, and 5-10 different types of truffles or candies.

While I get Meyer has health problems…he’s taking the easiest part of the year off and will just be back to coach for next season. I feel like if he was honestly taking a break for his health and family, it would be for a full year. Maybe its motivation to try and get his team to play (and cry) harder for him today.

I think he is just looking to take a break. Perhaps some of those other head coaches should do the same. The stress they are under is unreal. And don’t anyone tell me “they’re getting paid the big bucks!”

i work a lot. i work a lot at my regular job, and then i do this, and i don’t realy get paid for this.
would money make a difference….? yeah, it’d make it easier for Mrs CN to make some tough decisions.
OTOH, I’ve never had chest pains because of work.

in my experience
when your laying in a hospital bed and the docs are trying to figure out if it would be better to crack your chest or medical treat your “heart” issues (because I don’t belive these dehydration reports) driven looks exactly like someone that didn’t care enough to take care of himself

spent a summer there in 89, as an intern for P&G. Skyline Chili is the famous one, but it’s nothing that special. Chili over noodles. five way adds onions and cheese. Maybe something else since that only adds up to four.

But it really isn’t the single-wing. The single-wing has a lot more than a direct snap to a back that will likely run. For those who continue to reference it as single-wing, that really isn’t accurate. The formations that are use most often do not look anything like a single-wing!

on Game Day they were talking about Tebow’s future. About half the players they talked to didn’t think he will make it as a pro quarterback.
