The Cynic’s Guide to College Football: Special Report, 300 Edition
Sure, the cynic in me (after all, that’s my job) says it’s easy to say, "Well, what else is there to do there?" But I’ve discovered not only is that sterotype not true (hint: Omaha and Lincoln have the same entertainment options as any typical mid-major or capital city, plus some neat "local flavor" stuff), but there’s something much deeper. Because there is no pro team or "Nebraska State", the people of Nebraska identify with their team in a way not seen in many other places.
Hugging Harold Reynolds puts to rest the myth that "there's nothing else to do in Nebraska" - a nice write up on his trip to Lincoln for the 300th sell-out game. -CB
USC's Stafon Johnson Injured in weight room accident
USC tailback Stafon Johnson was seriously injured in a weight room accident when a weight fell on his throat. Keep this young man in your prayers as he tries to recover from this - what a shock. - CB

Thanks for the tip
I enjoyed that “outsider” (Hugging Harold Reynolds) perspective on last weekend’s festivities.
One thought occurred…I don’t know if it was intended or not, but that comparison to Boston fans might be construed as a slam, depending on the company!
(See also: every Kissing Suzy Kolber “Tommy the Pats fan” post ever—to wit: “…YOU AHHN’T AS GOOD AT BEING SPARTS FANS AS WE AHHHH!!! Ow-uh team has been around longah, and that makes us bettah! EVERYONE KNOWS THAT BAWSTON FANS ROOT HAHHDAH THAN ANYONE…”)

Speaking as a Husker fan who is, at times, perturbed by our collective self-aggrandizing ways, I can certainly see how an outsider could easily draw such a likeness between “Joe Husker Fan” and “Tommy From Quincy”. In the past, I’ve even cringed when reading those KSK posts…thinking to myself how similar the target of their satire is to that of our own “we’re the greatest fans in the history of the freakin’ universe” claptrap. But about ten years ago, I spent some time living in Boston…so I can also assert that one key difference between NU fans and those of that particular city is: most of us are not complete, arrogant, self-absorbed jerks the other 99% of the time that a game is not going on. (See also: Tommy the Pats Fan) So we’ve got that much going for us, I guess.
Judging from the otherwise glowing tone of the report from his visit to Lincoln, I take it that a negative connotation was not this author’s intent.
An enjoyable read either way…thanks for the link!
