Day of the 300th! - Open Game Day Thread

This is your open game day thread for discussing today's college football games.

It's not a great day of college football, not a lot of top match ups, but some interesting games depending up what happens.

The Big 12 needs wins today. The non-conference season hasn't gone as well as it could have for the conference. So far it's been a disappointment.

- Virginia Tech vs Miami is the biggest game of the day unless you're in the Big 10

- Texas Tech vs Houston - the Big 12 needs this one

- Kansas vs Southern Miss - a chance to see how the Jayhawks do in a game they should easily win.

- LSU vs Mississippi State - could LSU get upset on the road?

- Iowa vs Penn State - the biggest game of the day in the Big 10

To post, you need to create an account by clicking on the 'Sign Up" button at the upper left. All you need is an email address. Here's a complete explanation of the process, including how to use some Hot Keys to more easily navigate the comment system.

Once you join Corn Nation, you're free to join any other SB Nation blog with the same account if you want to annoy our Big 12 counterparts!

If you need more incentive, accounts are free!!!!

MInnesota

marched down the field and scored right away on Northwestern – made it look easy. Interesting game for Minnesota as they keep trying to build their program under Tim Brewster.

Kansas

has already scored……

then they let Southern Miss get outside on a screen pass. Darrel Stuckey saved the touchdown for the Jayhawks.

if you're

wondering why I’d be watching Minnesota – Northwestern -

one – i live here
two – watching Eric Decker. the guy is amazing, the balls he catches.

weird

Decker had a catch similar to Holt’s touchdown last week. Decker caught the ball, fell out of bounds, bounced twice, and then the ball came out.

They reviewed it, gave the catch to Minnesota, then reversed themselves. What the hell?

Wish i could remember how many times out of the 300 I was there!
Anybody recording the game tonight, i would buy the dvd!!!

by slyde3 on Sep 26, 2009 11:57 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

actually

you can order the DVD off the sidebar….. I asked Mike Osborne at Best of Big Red if he’s going to have any extras on this game – he indicated that they hope to have some of the special features they have. I’ll find out early next week.

I’ll DVR it, but don’t really have a way to get it on DVD, and will probably just buy the season at the end of the year.

Is that just the fan in me speaking?

NU needs to get the secondary playing well, and I’ll feel really good.

i wonder

Does anybody vote for minnesota since cosgrove is coaching there?

by huskermic on Sep 26, 2009 12:17 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions   0 recs

actually

Minnesota’s defense is doing pretty well…. for a Minnesota defense. Cosgrove is “co-coordinator” – so they stuck him with another guy who probably knows more about spread defense.

ran a pick play with the back coming out the back field, briscoe came across and picked the linebacker that was supposed to cover him so he was wide open. Surprised KU didn’t get called for that.

Speaking of bad calls. Anyone else see this

The BIG XII has reviewed the plays that Pelini sent to the BIG XII offices for official review. The two illegal procedure calls that were called on the drive in the third quarter that helped to take UNL out of FG range were not illegal procedure calls at all as the players were only turning around to hear the QB make calls.

It’s ok I’ve moved on.

Both are pretty significant, obviously. Doubtful you’ll see what Paterno has done again – coaches just can’t last that long with the impatience that we have in college football these days.

You don’t like tebow?

by huskermic on Sep 26, 2009 3:28 PM CDT via mobile reply actions   0 recs

He's ok

I think he’s overrated, and too full of himself. I think his speech last year was waaay overrated.

I’ts just more of a reaction to endless media love. And a hate for Florida and their head coach. If Flordia wins it all this year then they become the greatest of all time, win back to back, which NU was the last to do, and win 3 championships in 4 years, which NU was the last to do.

i agree with most of that

I do respect him as a christian athelte and player. Yes he does get a lot of love by the media and I would put him top ten Player of all time. But listening to the media wow the greatest ever

yeah nothing wrong

with the way he lives, though I may poke fun at him. I do respect that he follows his beliefs.

wow

Virginia Tech is really dominating Miami. Didn’t think that would happen. The Hokie ground game tearing up the ’Canes.

And Taylor is making plays all over.

both this o line is getting better

Just need to punch it in better

by huskermic on Sep 26, 2009 3:48 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions   0 recs

Helu

is damned good, the o-line is just decent.

I’d like to see more explosive run blocking out of our line.

Although right now the Hokie defense is shutting down Miami

And now the Hokies have blocked a punt for a touchdown

it's only

Pelini’s second year. These are Callahan’s players – he preferred big huge lineman who were good at stepping back, so the linemen we have are good at pass blocking, but not quick enough off the ball for the run. Look at Slauson and Murtha for examples, both were good pass blockers (when Murtha actually played), but slow off the ball on the run.

It didn’t help losing Burkes to medical this year.

Cotton – he’s gotten a bad rep because of being around with Solich the first time and then being Iowa State’s offensive coordinator. I’m not sold on him, but I don’t think he’s that bad either.

If we have a weak link its cotten… Our o line has been good but not close to reaching their potential

Virginia Tech

has to be careful here …… if Miami plays gap defense like we did last week instead of blowing up the field, they’ll shut down Tech’s offense, and this will be a game.

I'm shocked the field is holding up so well

Bermuda is good for that, but the drainage system as to be over-loaded. I wonder if it’s a sand profile?
