Lester Ward Earns Third Running Back Spot
Husker Extra's blog reports that Lester Ward has earned the third running back spot:
As for No. 3, running backs coach Tim Beck gives redshirt freshman Lester Ward a slight edge over sophomores Austin Jones and Marcus Mendoza.
"I think Lester's a little ahead," Beck said. "He's a little more consistent in his play."
"A lot of things will depend on the situation," Beck added. "Lester Ward and A.J. Jones are probably a little ahead of Marcus right now, just because there's still a couple things Marcus needs to do to detail up his game a little bit."
No mention of Collins Okafor, though. That's too bad. I guess they all can't be starters, though, so we'll just have to wait and see how he contributes.
There was something I liked about watching Austin Jones at the last two spring games - I hope he can see some action this season, get some carries, something to reward him.
Given Helu, Burkhead, then Ward, what do you guys think the carry distribution will look like?
