Huskers Have A Perfect Weekend
Wow, what a weekend for Nebraska sports. With the number of sports being played, you'd think something negative would happen, but just look look at the list of accomplishments for Husker teams this weekend:
- The men's basketball team won on the road at Baylor to finish 8-8 in the conference. That's the first time in 10 years we've been at .500.
- The women's basketball team won on the road at Stillwater, beating the Cowgirls 82-74. Despite injuries to their best players, the women seemed to have it turned around to make a run in the Big 12 tourney.
- The baseball team had a four-game sweep over Cal State Northridge. CSN never seriously threatened in any game.
- The softball team won a pair of games against Wichita State and North Dakota.
- The gymnastics team beat Iowa State.
- The soccer team went 3-0, beating Southern Utah, Arizona State and Washington State to move to 3-1-1.
- Nobody got arrested - the biggest fear on Monday for offseason college football fans.
- The biggest kudos of the weekend go to the fourth-ranked wrestlers who won their first Big 12 championship, tying with third-ranked Iowa State. Four Husker wrestlers earned individual titles - Jordan Burroughs (157), Craig Bester (197), Brandon Brown (174) and Vince Jones (184). The wrestling title is the first Big 12 title in any men's sport since 2007.

Congrats to the wrestlers...
I figured with the whole gay porn scandal/fiasco, that this would be a long season for them.
Mark Manning has done a wonderful job with this program since taking over, and we seem to get better every year.

Congrat's, but wait on Manning
The wrestlers did a good job. Burroughs had a rough start and Dwyer got out wrestled, but otherwise, it was a solid performance. However, since he has been at Nebraska, Manning has never had his wrestlers prepared for the big one at the end. They have always fallen short. The one year when some perhaps overachieved was when Brands got Beckerman to reach his potential. Insiders will tell you that with the recruits that he has had, Manning has fallen far short of expectations. Yes, he has had a little bad luck, but he should have sent Donohue and Jordan packing long before they brought humiliation to the university. When you don’t discipline jerks like Donohue, things end up like they did. Ask Manning how many times he bailed Donohue out of trouble. Very similar to years ago when the previous coach kept bailing out JR Pleinis. I really hope that the Huskers do well. They could be a top four team if they produce. They are not even in the same league as the Hawkeyes. If they were, Burroughs would not have run away from Metcalf. It would be nice to see a champ and some all-americans. Good luck and I hope that Manning can get them over the hump and prove that he can coach as well as he can recruit.
