Mike Ekeler Interviews for South Florida Defensive Coordinator
The St. Petersburg Times is reporting that Mike Ekeler interviewed Saturday for the South Florida defensive coordinator job. Ekeler only has 1 season as a full-time assistant coach (at Nebraska), following one year as a graduate assistant at Oklahoma and three years as a GA and intern at LSU. (All working with Bo Pelini.) But Ekeler played for USF head coach Jim Leavitt at Kansas State in the early 90's.

Glass Ceiling?
This is what EK is looking through @ NE.
He seems pretty green to become at DC after just one year as a true position’s asst., but if USF offers he’s gone as far as I can tell.

agreed
on the green part.
I thought this was a little weird, too, but I suppose – it’s not all a “good ol’ boys” network. If you’re not worth a damn, you’re taking everyone with you, so Ekeler must have a lot of value to Jim Leavitt.

Sad to see him go
if he does.
But the positive may be the resulting coaching tree that Bo is starting. If Bo can be seen as a coach to learn under, develop quickly and move up, NU may soon become a hot spot for up and coming coaches.
And that coaching tree is useful when/if NU needs to fill coaching spots.
You can't possibly be a scientist if you mind people thinking that you're a fool.
