Nebraska still controls their own destiny with a big win over the Kanas Jayhawks!

And with this game, we can say good bye to Jayhawks Todd Reesing, Dezmon Briscoe, and my personal nemesis, Kerry Meier

Zac Lee, Niles Paul, and Roy Helu all had a great game!!!! Nebraska had over 400 yards of offense, scoring more points than they had in the last three games!!!!

This is your post game thread for comments about the game (and for commenting on evening games).

Enjoy it Husker fans!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Where did both of these offenses come from? :)

IT’S A WIN!

So how bout we kick some Wildcat butt next week and seal this thing up? Can we improve more and put an even better effort into next week?

Game balls

Lee- played well enough to not make the move to Green.
Helu- Stud and a closer
Paul- Huge catches, and a sweet return.
Offense- no turnovers, and ended the long drive streak.

i would

have to go back and watch…. but at times they did the same thing they did earlier in the year – not rush upfield against a team doing a lot of draws.

other times, KU caught them up in twists.

Sounds strange

but I see it as a positive that they could win when the D did not play that well. Didn’t think I would say that this year!

by jon's only friend on Nov 14, 2009 6:21 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Exactly, it’s reassuring to know that this team can actually win a game when their defense doesn’t force 5+ turnovers. Next week will be a different challenge, but KSU offers nothing offensively that KU can’t do better.

I honestly think K state keeps it close, next week, through 3 quarters but eventually succumb to Nebraska’s o-line and Helu runs rampant on their secondary, much like today.

I think the Colorado game is an absolute blowout, though. I can see NU rolling in “Sun Belt game” fashion. Last year’s game in Lincoln was an anomoly, and I think this year’s team will prove that.

I’m really up in the air about the Big 12 championship game, though. I have to see which Texas team shows up from here on out. If it’s the slow-to-start Texas (see: Wyoming and Colorado games) Nebraska could keep it close and win in OU/NU fashion. If it is slow-to-close Texas (see: Baylor game today) Nebraska will dominate them from beginning to end defensively. Texas’ quick-strike offense is extremely pass-heavy which either makes for a lot of big plays, or a lot of 3-and-outs. This defense usually only allows the latter.

So who knows.

TCU also has an awesome D,……look up the last time we played TCU we barely beat them back when Solich was coach. They are WAY better now. Our D has improved however we are so inconsistent and have ZERO depth at any position. TCU by 14

The D has improved and I think they can put a game plan together to compete with anyone.

However our offense is so sporadic,,,,you never know who is going to show up. Do we have a go to receiver Meir, Briscoe….for a first down.

We have one player HELU. I don’t care about the line…..its been the same crappy line for 6 years. Callahn got points out of it with 2 very good QB’s and maybe one good receiver in Purify…..otherwise….they have not had a single guy playing on Sundays (Hochstein?) I am talking about QB, WR, TE, RB.
If they were running the option that would not be a big deal….however we are not.

Face it, you're back.

Congrats from this Cyclone fan on stepping up and finally being a team that decides to lay the claim to the Big 12 North title. A decent, healthy, and Nebraska team should have enough talent not to get completely demolished by Texas.

And man, I bet we’re going to look on that 8 turnover fluke and laugh over the next few years, when you are slowly grinding our asses into the turf again on a regular basis. Yeah, good times.

you'd have to hope

that the offensive line would be better.

Hey… let’s be real. Last year, we had Ganz, Swift, Peterson that ran that offense.

We lost them, plus Quentin Castille, and Matt Slauson. We lost Murtha, too, but I don’t think that was a very big loss.

We were bound to see a lot of drop off, it’s just that the offseason Nebraska media feeds us candy. Maybe I can be considered among that group because I edit a yearbook, but I’d rather not do that kind of stuff.

I still see the same errors in his foot work when he is running left or right. The TD throw was running straight at his target and winging it. Texas that much credit yet.

It’s November. There’s still so much football.

Given that…. I think ’Bama – texas is a good choice. But what about UF/Bama vs TCU?

Texas rushed for 224 yards yesterday

and only 187 passing. Just FYI. Tre Newton finally is healthy after suffering a concussion against Colorado and it made a difference.

by LonghornEm on Nov 15, 2009 8:20 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Against Baylor, no less...

Singe-handedly the greatest rushing defense college football has ever seen!

GBR!!!

by Screwface on Nov 16, 2009 7:18 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Not saying Baylor is good defending against the run

But Texas had more yards rushing against Baylor than against similarly weak teams such as Colorado, and if you look at the stats, Texas rushed for a lot more yards before Newton’s concussion than after it (for example, 335 yards in the UTEP game, the game before CU). Just saying we have been able to run the ball, contrary to what Texas Husker said, and you can expect more of a running game with Newton back and Johnson improving.

I'm still

going with the idea that we can beat them if we get to the Big 12 title game.

i'm still not

for a playoff…. and it’s solely because of logistics.

I’m completely against having a playoff without home field advantage. And it won’t end up that way because they’ll want to mollify the bowl people.

So, no, not for a playoff.

I would leave the Big 12 the way it is....and most of the BIG ones.......that is what they are scared of

You would have to tweak the independents. WAC, MAC and Mountain…..otherwise the Big conferences dont need much changing to get a PLAYOFF for COLLEGE FOOTBALL. WE have a COLLEGE BASEBALL, VOLLEY BALL, SOFTABLL, SOCCER, WRESTLING, GOLF, BOWLING, BASKETBALL PLAYOFF……………geez how ridiculous is this ……the most watched College sport has no playoff

Why can't

they take the winner of every conference and have a bracket system to widdle them down to the final two. Then have them play for the Championship?? A few more games, and a little more money. Then have the bowl games for our pure enjoyment.

Hawkins

is a good coach. I believe that. But at CU, things have just not worked out for him. Maybe it’s Boulder. Maybe it’s his son playing quarterback. Who knows. In a way, it’s sad. He has a lot of passion – you can’t say that this isn’t nearly killing him. But if you don’t have momentum, you have nothing in recruiting.
