CBS Sports Blog Poll Week 8 - Does Anyone Really Deserve It?

Despite Florida's close call with Arkansas, I've kept them at number one. The two must be considered interchangeable.

Texas stays at third, beating rival Oklahoma in the Red River Shoot Out, looking not at all like the third team in the nation in doing so. The unfortunate fact is there's no one else more deserving.

And that's kind of the problem.

Nebraska falls out of the rankings after being #10 last week. Kansas stays in because they lost on the road. Texas Tech moves in because I don't know who else to put in there. Pitt and West Virginia...????

Star-divide

RankTeamDelta
1 Florida

4 Southern Cal 2
5 Boise State

11 Oklahoma State 2
12 Oregon 4

Last week's ballot

ok with the poll but

OU with three losses still in there? Take away the name and they wouldn’t even be a canadiate. Though really who else. This year of college football has been well pathetic compared to others. Besides Suh and Clausaen ( yes he does deserve it ) and maybe Keenum from Houston no real dominant heisman canadiate. Its just an off year for college.

their three

losses are to BYU, Miami, and Texas.

By one point, one point, and three points.

That’s after losing a Heisman trophy winner, and the best TE in the nation.

I still have Oklahoma #10...

…they’ve lost by 3 to Texas and 1 to Miami. I think that the Sooners would still beat most of the Top 25.

not a grumble

I’d put ‘Bama over Florida, but you’re right, they’re interchangeable.

this whole year’s nutz, just nutz…and you’ve done a fine job of sortin’ ’em.

Yeah, OU @ 3 and 3 is hard to keep in, but harder still to leave out…who wants to play ’em?

I still

think NU is a top 25 team and will prove it the rest of the season. Crazy to drop them clear out after one loss. You wouldnt do that to Florida, Texas or USC even if they got creamed.

we have beaten

no one to deserve a ranking.

seriously.

Nebraska benefited from a high ranking because i believe their defense to be second best in the Big 12 behind Oklahoma. But until we get the offense straightened out (and it wasn’t just the Tech game) – we do not deserve to be ranked.

Then what have KU and tOSU done?

If that’s the case for NU then you need to drop out Kansas and Ohio St. Neither of those teams have beaten anyone of note (maybe Wisconsin for OSU but I’d counter that with Missouri for NU) yet they remain even though they lost to crappy teams on the road?

Plus, our only losses are to decent TexTech and VaTech (also by a point on the road) teams. I’ve gotta agree with taflorom in that it’s kinda silly to knock NU all the way out…maybe to just #25 and hold there for now.

so....

you think Nebraska should be there instead of Kansas?

We lost at home. They lost on the road.

You could argue that we lost to a better team, but again, we lost at HOME. Good teams don’t lose at home.

Losses on the road...

With that mentality then LSU/Okla.St or Penn St./BYU should be fishing around the 20-25 area or not on at all.

Look… I think this is a decent blog poll, and in a wacky year so far this can be difficult, but I just don’t get the mentality that Nebraska should suffer while other teams get a pass (especially if its on the road to craptastic teams like CU or Purdue). I was kind of shocked to see NU go from a promising #15 to completely off the board after one game (note: only kinda since I know the AP poll is a fickle beast). We got beat by a good team and the score seemed lopsided (note: seemed) but tying an anchor around Nebraska’s neck after that game and sending them overboard might be a bit much.

Plus, NU will probably be ranked again in two weeks anyway so might as well save the trouble with all that shuffling around.

OK

then tell me who has West Virginia beat? Or Pittsburgh or Utah Or etc etc…….It goes on and on and on. It all in the eye of the beholder.
