Green leads Dayton Broncos to State Championship

Cody Green finished his season with 230 completions on 354 attempts giving him 64.97% completions, with 37 TD passes and only 6 interceptions. He also had 1,506 rushing yards with 25 TD's. In the State Title game he was 23 of 34 for 329 yards, 6 TD's and 1 interception. Dayton lost the record setting match-up 69-49, which was the most ever scored in a state title game. Both team combined for 1402 total yards of offense and 63 firstdowns.

Green will start in the spring semester at Nebraska. He is a great kid and Nebraska ought to be proud to have him there.

Lets see.....

how his game translates to the next level. He obviously is a great athlete I hope his work ethic will let him be able to continue success at the college level. I think the QB race at Nebraska is wide open for the taking. It will be an interesting position see develop over the next 6 to 8 months.

If He

ends up the starter this coming season, it’s a bad sign. I’d think they’d redshirt him a year and give him a chance to get a full grasp of the offense before he sees the field.

Good point

A year as a redshirt would probably do him the most good. But, if the upper classmen don’t step up and he is the best at the position, I think Bo will play him. That would make him a three year starter when all of Bo’s recruits should be hitting their stride. But, I hope the older guys step up to the challenge.

I dont

understand your thinking there. Just because he starts thats a bad sign?? That by far does not mean the other qbs suck it just means he is the best we have. It might just mean that he is dam good and picks things up very fast. Ever think of that. We have not seen alot of our future qbs but the little we have seen doesn’t suggest that they suck.

IMO Zac Lee will be the starter and Witt will back him up with Spano playing third string and Green redshirting. The year after will be Lee and Witt with Spano and Green sharing third string and then look for Green to start as a sophmore. However I will not be surprised, if he is another Tommie Frazier type or Turner Gill type of qb that he would get the nod next year.

yeah

it means the other QB’s suck. That’s the point. I’d far rather have the scenario you laid out – which would mean that Lee and Witt don’t suck.

Just because

he starts doesnt mean they suck. Where do you get that? It could simply be that he is that dam good, ever think of that? So did everyone in front of Gill suck when he came in his sophmore year? According to TO no they didn’t. Probably the only reason TG never started his fresh. year is that we had a freshmen team. I am not even sure freshmen could play at that time.

hmmmmmmmmm

Freshmen were eligible to play in 1972, however… seems to me that the freshman team ended around 1982.

It could very well be that he’s a phenom, but given the rate of phenoms, that’s unlikely.

I have no idea about Green, how good he’ll be, no one does. But…. again, I hope he redshirts this next season.

No it ended after that

because I graduated in ’84 and Kevin Hinton played on it his freshmen year at NU which would have been ’85. It did end shortly after that though.

Sharp Kid

He’s smart, he should pick up the offense pretty fast. Time would only help though, I guess if they feel he could be an impact player right off the bat he might not be redshirted.

More Witt less Green

I hope Green gets red shirted and Witt starts. Give him a chance to get used to the system and the coaching staff (god forgid Watson doesn’t land a head coaching job somewhere else). It would be good to stack the rooster with talent again. By doing this it makes for better players and alot more effert goes into every practice drill, in the waight room, and on the field, something we have went away from with Callihan here. He thought just because they were a 5 star recruit they needed to start NO MATTER WHAT!!!!!!
