Doc Upset over Gottlieb's "Punk" Charge against Miller
In Wednesday night's ESPN2 broadcast of the Kansas-Nebraska game, analyst Doug Gottlieb said that NU guard Cookie Miller was "acting like a punk" in going after a loose ball. Needless to say, Doc Sadler was a wee bit miffed.
In an interview with KOZN-1620 AM radio in Omaha yesterday, Gottlieb made a point of bringing up the situation again and reiterated the punk charge once again, though he did appreciate the effort Miller showed.
Steve Sipple and Brian Rosenthal of the Journal-Star chip in with their own response, siding with Doc.

Poor choice of words for a couple reasons:
1) Cookie’s black
2)Cookie’s short
But, no foul, no cheap shot upon official review. Jump ball—what’s the problem? Get a life Gottlieb.

I want an apology
For the awful announcing.
I didn’t care for the remark about the football team either.

I think it's been blown out of proportion a little...
Calling people “punks” is sort of like Gottlieb’s catch phrase, so I didn’t even really notice it after having listened to him on the radio for the last year plus.
I guess, though, if you don’t listen to Gottlieb regularly, you’d be shocked to hear that.

Guy's gotta
change his catch phrase then. ‘Punk’ should not be in the verbal repertoire of a sports commentator.

Eh.
I think this is all much ado about nothing.
Cookie was acting like a punk, trying to grab the ball from someone after the whistle had already blown.
Gottlieb said it how it was. He even qualified it right after he made the comment, saying everything was fine until the end.
No need to be miffed.
Gottlieb is one of CBB’s best announcers, period. It would suck for him to get in serious trouble on such a non-issue.

I'm not saying Gottlieb shoud be repramanded
in some way, just might choose his words more carefully—that one in particular—for his own sake.. It’s not big deal and yes Cookie was playing overly hard I guess, but that kind of play happens pretty frequently especially in a closely contested game.
