Former D-Coordinator Lance Van Zandt Passes Away
Former Nebraska defensive coordinator Lance Van Zandt died yesterday from cancer in Nederland, Texas. He was 69. Van Zandt came to Nebraska in 1977 to replace Monte Kiffen, and left four years later to be an assistant with the New Orleans Saints. Perhaps Van Zandt's greatest contribution to Nebraska was convincing a young quarterback named Turner Gill to come to Nebraska. The Port Arthur, TX news has a touching eulogy of Van Zandt from one of his longtime friends.
