Blogpoll - 2008 College Football Rankings - Week Five

From the blogpoll master, Brian Cook at mgoblog:

Starting Sept. 29th, the Blogpoll will be listed on a really well-known site as BlogPoll Top 25 and found in its own dedicated area on that site, listed right alongside the AP and Coaches. The weekly BlogPoll results will appear there first.

[Note by corn blight, 09/29/08 1:36 PM CDT - This has been moved back a week.]

So, it's getting serious, which means I want all y'all to get more serious about the feedback you give me. This is your chance to have input into the process, so don't take it lightly.

A bit of arrogance perhaps. It used to be that you never saw much movement in the AP Poll. Now you do. Is that because of the influence of the blogpoll? I'd like to think it is. Why are the AP and coaches polls more credible than what we do as bloggers? At the least, we crave input, they don't. We reach out to you. They don't. Isn't the collective mind of fans better equiped to put a poll together than either of those parties? I think so.

This week, I've hammered the teams that have lost. USC, Georgia, Wisconsin and Florida. Why? Because they ALL lost badly.

My poll probably reflects more Big 12 homerism than it needs to, but again, feedback is necessary.

Star-divide

RankTeamDelta
1 Oklahoma 1
2 Missouri 2
3 LSU 3
4 Alabama 6
5 Texas Tech 3
6 Texas 3
7 Brigham Young 4
8 South Florida 5
9 Penn State 5
10 Kansas 6
11 Oklahoma State 6
12 Utah 6
13 Florida 8
14 Fresno State 5
15 Georgia 12
16 Southern Cal 15
17 Wisconsin 10
18 Boise State 2
19 Connecticut 2
20 Auburn 4
21 Ohio State 1
22 Vanderbilt 1
23 Virginia Tech 3
24 California 1
25 Clemson 10
Dropped Out: Wake Forest (#12).

Lost badly?

USC lost to a team they had no business losing to. They do this much too often. All the athletes in the world, yet Oregon State pummeled them, and I mean pummeled as in physically beat them on the field and that's the ONLY thing that counts.

Georgia - 31-0 at half against 'Bama? You tell me why they should be in the Top 10.

Wisconsin - up 19-0 and you lose to Michigan? No love for you.

Florida - brutalized by Jevon Snead. If Snead can do this to you, what about the rest of the SEC?

Am I being too harsh on these teams? Would you drop them like a rock? In today's non-conference world, where no one wants to play tough games because they're worried about losing, doesn't that mean that the big games carry way more consequences?

the first time this season I pretty much agree with your poll. The only exception is that I would have dropped Clemson also. Probably would have put Wake Forest at 25 and dropped Clemson. Or maybe dropped bothe and added Maryland. It looks pretty good other then that.

6 Big XII teams in the top 11

I like it! I don’t agree, but I like it, nonetheless.

As for the teams you hammered, I can’t say that any of them didn’t deserve it and assuming your basing if off what you’ve seen to this point, it’s defensible. But do you really think that on a neutral field, Oklahoma State could beat Georgia or USC?
