Finally -- A Basketball Recruit
It appears that this Friday, when Doc Sadler returns from an out-of-town trip, that Eshaunte Jones (who decommitted from Indiana) will be signing at Nebraska, according to Rivals. The Journal-Star's Life In the Red Blog is reporting the same thing. Jones is a 6'4" Shooting Guard who, according to his Scout.com profile has a strong outside shot.
Jones will be filling the gap left by Roburt Sallie's ineligibility. Sallie committed to Memphis last week, and is expected to see significant playing time for the National Runners-up.
In other news, Danny Nee and Erick Strickland will be inducted into the Nebraska Basketball Hall of Fame this fall. Nee is Nebraska's all-time winningest coach, and is responsible for 5 of our 6 NCAA tournament appearances. Strickland was a standout player, and has since made a living in the NBA. Congrats to both.

nice
to know that we lost a guy capable of playing for Memphis. It should be CRYSTAL clear that the Big 12 isn’t going to ever do us any favors, i.e., no one in our conference wants us getting good at basketball. I hope we remember that when someone else asks for a waiver.
So…. what about big guys? Do we have any?

Big men...
For 2008-09, we’re in trouble. The scuttlebutt has always been that even if Christopher Niemann, the 6-11 German kid qualifies (he may lose a year because his German club team is a mix of amateurs and semi-professionals), he may redshirt (though he may end up playing becuase we need bodies). He is however listed on the roster, and there’s no other real good big men left that aren’t committed elsewhere.
As for next fall, a 7-foot Juco player is set to visit sometime soon from Marshalltown (IA) CC. We’ll have a few openings for next fall, with at least 2 seniors graduating, and 1 or 2 open scholarships left from players leaving/not qualifying this year. (We have 3 open scholies now, 1 of which is reserved for Niemann and the other likely to Eshaunte Jones).
Our frontcourt will likely be made up of 2 out of the 4 redshirts from last year—Alex Chapman (6-9) and Alonzo Edwards (6-7), plus Chris Balham (if he’s healthy, he’ll probably start) and Niemann (if he’s eligible and active).
Of course, we may luck out and find a big man overseas that someone missed in the next 6 weeks, but I wouldn’t count on it.
