Corn Kernels June 2 -- Regional T&F + final Big 12 Composite Standings

The Track and Field season is winding down for the Huskers, with only one meet left for most Huskers -- the NCAA National Championships in Des Moines, IA, next Wednesday.  This weeked, Nebraska hosted the NCAA Midwest Regional, which saw 14 Huskers advance to Nationals (by finishing in the top 5 at Regionals) to join automatic Heptathlon qualifier Megan Wheatley.

  • Dusty Jonas, who is ranked No. 1 in the world and has already qualified for the Olympic Trials in late June, won the High Jump with a leap of 7'-7" , which tied his championship-winning mark from the NCAA Indoor Championships this winter.
  • Nicholas Gordon and LeRon Williams placed 1st and 5th, respectively, in the Long Jump to advance.  Gordon tied the Midwest Regional record with a jump of 25'-11 1/2"
  • Lara Crofford finished fourth in the 5000m run
  • Natalie Willer placed fifth in the Pole Vault
  • Keith Lloyd placed first in the Shot Put, and fourth in the Hammer Throw
  • Adam Dailey finished fourth in the 400m Hurdles, with the 3rd best time ever by a Husker (50.33 s)
  • Epley Bullock and Erin Hannon finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in the women's High Jump
  • Kayla Wilkinson finished third in the Javelin
  • Natalja Zarcenko and Peter van der Westhuizen both qualified in the 1500m run
  • Lucas Hullett finished fifth in the 400m, an event he is a 3-time Indoor All-American in.
  • Tyrell Ross finished fifth in the 110m Hurdles, .09s ahead of the 6th place finisher.

Good Luck to those Huskers going on to Nationals and beyond.

Star-divide

In other news, Texas's win in the Big 12 Baseball tournament wrapped up 1st place for the Horns, and secured Nebraska in third place.
