Nebraska Baseball: Huskers vs Aggies Game Day Thread
Series History: Tied 2-2
Date: May 9th, 10th
Park: Haymarket Park
Game time: Saturday, 5:05 pm; Sunday, 1:05 pm
Television:
Saturday’s game will be live on NET (Ch. 12 and Ch. 112) and shown on a tape-delayed basis on CBS College Sports (CSTV) with the first airing Sunday afternoon.
Webcast: Games can be seen online for free at Huskers.com
Radio: Husker Sports Network and on the Internet at Huskers.com
- The start of today’s game has been delayed until 5:05 pm due to weather issues. I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t make that either.
- Oklahoma State won last night 3-2 over Texas Tech, so the Huskers maintain a half game lead for second place.
- Last night’s game was an instant classic, two top teams battling it out in a game that went extra innings. The Aggies lead 3-2 going into the bottom of the ninth when the Huskers scored to tie it. Neither team had lost an extra inning game this season.
- In the 16th inning, the Aggies’ Dane Carter hit a three RBI double after the Huskers had given up three straight singles, giving the Aggies the win.
- It was shades of the 2005 Texas 16-inning game but Nebraska won that game and then went on to lose the series. Perhaps fortune will go our way this time, that this loss will turn into a series win for the Huskers.
- In the 15th inning, Mike Anderson filed a protest after the batter struck out swinging then called for batter interference on the throw to second to pick off a runner. The umps conferred, then sent the Aggie back to second. If there was batter interference, the guy should have been ruled out.
- Aggie coach Rob Childress had a problem with Mitch Abeita’s bat, at least that’s what I have down. It may have been Jake Optiz’ bat. The bat was confiscated for later examination. Maybe there was a nuclear device hidden in it, who knows.
- Last night’s crowd of 8,708 was the largest home crowd in the Big 12 this season and the third-largest crowd in Nebraska’s school history.

Saturday's Game Postponed
They'll play a doubleheader tomorrow starting at noon.
TV broadcasts aren't known, but yesterday, KOZN/NET's Kevin Kugler indicated that they might carry a game Sunday if the game today got washed out.
that's too bad.
thanks for the notice.

Game 1 tomorrow on NET-HD & CBS College Sports
...live at 12 noon. Game 2 will not be televised.
Weather looks better... the rain is on it's way out of the area, but the wind will be HOWLING out to right field at 20 to 30 mph.
Error!
Error on Carter on a throw to first, so Optiz comes in and scores.
That's a routine play, the second error on the Aggies in the first inning!
Whooeeeee!
BIG BIG game, possibly determining a national seed for one of these teams.
two
wild pitches in a row by Aaron Pribanic.
the first advanced the runners, the second allowed a run to score as it got by Abeita.
Tie game, now.
Scratch that.... double - scores another run. 4-3 Aggies.
top
of the fourth, as the Huskers went down three in a row in the third.
Aggies still lead 4-3.
the
ump gets a rousing ovation from the crowd for calling the lead off guy out, as he didn't call a guy out at first the previous inning.
Nimmo
bunts... and makes it to first!
So the Huskers get a run.
Nimmo dove at first, and Ellard, the Aggie pitcher didn't make the tag.
bottom
of the fifth.
Aggies got a single, but that's it.
Aggies still lead 5-4. Huskers up.
single
by the Aggies to lead off.
pitching change.
if I could hear the bloody game I'd tell you who it is - i have a 15 year old with a big amp and guitar who can't help but turn it up.
Argggh
It's Erik Bird.
hit
and run was on, but it's a fly to the warning track. Belfonte makes the catch, but can't get the runner doubled up.
Abeita
gets an error as he tries to throw to second.
Runner gets to third as the ball goes into the outfield.
Dane Carter
hits a single, drives in a run as it gets past the first baseman.
Aggies lead 6-4 now.
Cotton
gets on...
with an error by Carter who bobbled the ball at third.
Nimmo is up. Huskers need to start scoring here.
holy cwo
went and got something to eat....
and now its 10-7 Aggies... top of the 7th, so the Huskers have made some headway.
Kirkland Rivers comes
in to pitch for the Aggies. Has a big ERA, but he's probably here to face to left-handed batters and that'll be it.
Belfonte up.
Huskers have runners at first, second. No outs.
Belfonte
had a perfect bunt right towards third that's ruled third.
So close... really. The crowd went nuts.
Rivers
damned near takes Belfonte's head off with a wild pitch.
Runners advance.
Whooeee! Let this guy pitch more.
Stewart
chops one down the first base line... little dinker. He's thrown out at first, Huskers score.
Pitcher almost came home, but didn't have a play there.
Cody Neer up
Neer
pinch-hitting for Andy Cotton.
Rivers is done. Shane Minx (Minks?) comes in to pitch.
wild pitch!
Minx got to the plate to back up the catcher, but the throw was wide, and Belfonte scores from third.
10-9!
Neer is at 0-2 now in the count. Maybe 1-2.
Another!!!!
wild pitch, again Minx comes home to cover, but doesn't get the tag down in time
IT'S TIED!
the
Aggie bullpen is struggling a bit, eh?
That's a good sign, as there's plenty of innings left, and Texas A&M is going throw pitchers.
whooeeee
hit up the middle, picked up by the shortstop....
he doesn't beat Neer to 2nd, but because he tried, he didn't get the throw to first to get Nimmo.
everybody's safe.
The
hit and run was on when Belfonte hit to center, and the Husker runner kept going as the center fielder let the ball go by him
it's a single with an error on the Aggie center fielder. That's the second error this inning by A&M.
Farst
was the runner that scored.
Stewart is at second now....
so much stuff going on, it's hard to keep up.
Nimmo
gets his fourth hit into center, and Stewart comes home.
13-10 now, Huskers!!!!
Wow. This team has had its problems on offense.
ripped
to left, Nimmo came home and was thrown out at the plate.
He ran directly into Gonzalez, the catcher, a good collision, but the catcher holds on and that's the inning.
Husker defense now just has to hold on for three outs.
