Congratulations Corn Nation!

I wanted to use my first "Diary entry" here to offer hearty congratulations to Corn Nation for winning the "Job award" (for keeping a stiff lip in the face of adversity) and the runner up for Big 12 blog of the year award.

Star-divide

You guys do an excellent job of covering the broad spectrum of all things Husker day in and day out.  You are definitely deserving of the recognition from your blogging peers!  I receive practically all of my Husker/CFB info via the blogs, so readers like myself definitely owe you a debt of gratitude.  I've been hard on Husker Mike from time to time in the past, but he said something in a comment to a DXP post recently that gave me pause:

I think the one thing most of us bloggers do is generally take a more honest, deeper look at the program. Each of us has our own biases to be sure, but it's usually much freer from the kabitzing and groupthink of many Husker boards...Each one provides an interesting perspective and different analysis, and that's what I love about all of them.

This really sums up why I've developed such respect for bloggers over the last couple of years.  It surely must be tough to find the motivation to keep churning out interesting, creative stories and articles, so I tip my hat to anyone who's dedicated enough to do so.  I may not always agree with everything that bloggers put out there, but that's the beauty...anyone is free to comment and discuss and at times, it really generates a genuine discourse.  And (in a welcome departure from the climate of the message boards) most bloggers and their commenters are careful to ensure that the discourse that results is thoughful and respectful.  I love this format and appreciate those tireless bloggers who take the lead in directing the discussion.

I thank all the bloggers for helping to subconsciously solidify my thoughts on each passing Husker news item.  As we recently had a little talk on DXP about the state of NU Blogs, it was generally agreed that each NU blog had sort of developed their own niche.  Everyone is to be commended for bringing what they've got to offer to the Husker blogging table.  But this year, special thanks and recognition are due to the guys here at Corn Nation for taking top honors among NU blogs this past year.

Thanks for all of your hard work Corn Blight and Husker Mike...keep up the good work!

Looking ahead, one of the fine Husker blogs needs to finally wrestle the conference title away from those obnoxious UT blogs and bring the title north next year!

thank you!

for all your comments.

And I agree about the Texas bloggers..... the bastards.

I would like to see the diaries used a little more than they are now, but that may change in the next couple of months.

While you'll probably never see the hot chicks here you see at DXP (Mrs Corn Nation wouldn't approve and I guess I don't blame her), I would like to see more humor in my own writing. I have 18 years of writing in the computer industry to overcome..... but I'm trying.

As far as motivation.... I've tried quitting writing several times over the past 20 years. It's never worked out well. If the bullshit doesn't have somewhere to go, it comes out at the wrong times and then everyone's thinking you need to be on some kind of anti-depressant or you have tourette's or something.

I guess... what I'm saying is that Corn Nation exists for the betterment of my mental health. That's really kind of creepy, ain't t? :)

But, thanks again, man!

Go Big Red!
