Nebraska

starts out well....

Belfonte has made it to 2nd already, one out on a sacrifice.

Optiz is out, Belfonte gets to third.

Belfonte!

scores on a Corriston single!

Abeita was walked previously, so Abeita has it to second.

1-0 Huskers!

Cody Neer

strikes out in his first at-bat in the series.

That retires the side, Huskers with one hit, 1-0 in the first.

If we can win this one...

it's a good chance to start building a lead in the Big XII, since Mizzou lost to Texas Tech yesterday.

BTW, this is 4 years in a row that the road team has won the Nebraska-Texas series.  So weird.

yeah

given that we'll need it if we get into a slump. maybe hit me for saying that.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Mar 30, 2008 1:21 PM CDT up reply actions

Stop hitting yourself

this is baseball -- slumps happen.  All teams go through it, and the season is designed to allow for it.  We hit a terrible slump last year, and we needed a strong finish just to make the post season.

BTW, I saw that bunt coming (though not the error), because Augie ALWAYS bunts in that situation.

Texas

scores two on a wild throw by Pribanic to third.

Tucker and Torres scored for Texas, leading 2-1 now.

Pribanic isn't starting out great, but that's okay. Settle it down.

Huskers turn DP

at

least they got a double play on that last at-bat.

Danks scores, though. Poop.

this

would not be a good time for Kyle Russell to begin getting out of his slump. Let's leave that for...

poop. base hit for Russell.

a high, foul pop-up right now

loaded.

we just need to get out of this inning.

to get us out of this painful inning.  3-1 Texas

ack

3 runs, 3 hits, two errors, at least we're out of the first.

all the snow has melted out of my front yard.

maybe that's a good sign.

oeeeee

damn near a HR by Torres.

Grindle

talking about low Big Dance ratings and that having four #1's make the tourney will help that cause.

I'm not sure. I like the tourney because of chaos.

OTOH, the games haven't been good, and if we have the four top seeds, they should be.

OTOH again, Memphis may destroy everyone by 20.

not much

action.

Still 3-1 Texas, bottom of the third.

Pribanic

having another rough inning.

bottom of the third, two more runs have scored for Texas, with only one out.

Hernandez double.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Mar 30, 2008 2:09 PM CDT reply actions

one more

6-1 after three, but Nebraska gets an out on the fly, and then an out on a throw to third by Corriston.

oeeee....

maybe this is to make up for the Longhorns getting pounded by Memphis right now in the Big Dance - 39-26.

Driving me nuts...

I'm simultaneously rooting for and against Texas...

I step out for lunch, and everything disintegrates in both games I'm watching/listening to.

The Nebraska-Texas series is always about big offensive swings, so I still wouldn't be surprised if NU rattles off some hits off an already worn-out Texas bullpen later on.

But, let's just hope we get out of each inning.

four

four errors for the Huskers today.

Let's hope we get it out of our system.

still 6-1, double-play gets us out of the bottom of the fourth after it looked like Texas might get something out of the inning.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Mar 30, 2008 2:21 PM CDT reply actions

Ugh...

Well, I suppose that if you're going to have 4 errors in a game, better it's in a Sunday game in a series you've already won than, say, an elimination game in a super regional.

Home Run!

Neer hits his first homer of the year to bring in 2 runs.  6-3 Texas.

I

was wondering if it was his first.

it would be nice to pull off a sweep here, so.... fingers crossed.

top

of the seventh now.

Double by Craig Corriston, then a homer by Cody Neer.

Suddenly after not looking very good, it's 6-3, and the Huskers are back in it.

Zach

Herr in to pitch for Pribanic.

no more runs for the 'Horns.

Go Big Red!

Preston Clark...

hits a 2-run homer to give Texas an 8-3 lead.

Seems like when Memphis goes on a rally in the basketball game, Texas gets a rally in the baseball game.

Got Corn?

by huskerlibrarian on Mar 30, 2008 3:07 PM CDT reply actions

yeah

it does.

I guess that doesn't bode well for us as Texas is getting their butts kicked by Memphis.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Mar 30, 2008 3:08 PM CDT up reply actions

not to mention

that either all 4 #1 seeds will be in the final four, or the Big XII is boned, with only KU left to play.

to get 5 runs...not to mention that we don't have long before the travel time thing kicks in.

like Augie will let anyone forget that, either!

I think

It's a Big XII rule for conference games, if I remember from the NU-Texas series in 2005.

Got Corn?

by huskerlibrarian on Mar 30, 2008 3:20 PM CDT up reply actions

okay

maybe they could just finish the basketball game, and get this over with, as Texas has now stretched their baseball lead to 12-3.

Four in the eighth.

Go Big Red!

Good news, I guess...

Memphis won, so Texas may be done scoring.

At least...

we still won a series at Texas, which is a difficult task any year.  Let's bounce back to beat Creighton on Tuesday.

Got Corn?

yep

amen to that.

there's plenty of weirdness going on around the Big 12 in baseball today.
