Holy Moly! Bill Snyder is Back
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3722069
Former Kansas State coach Bill Snyder will return to coach the program and will be introduced at a news conference on Monday, ESPN.com's Joe Schad has learned.
A person briefed on the situation said Sunday that Snyder will return to the Wildcats after three years away. Snyder, who is 69 years old, compiled a 136-68-1 record at Kansas State from 1989-2005.
A press conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. CT.
A source indicated to The Wichita (Kan.) Eagle that Snyder would be given a five-year contract worth $1.8 million per season.
He will return to coach in a stadium named for him and his family (Bill Snyder Family Stadium). He replaces Ron Prince, who finished with a 5-7 record this season and 17-20 overall in three seasons at with the Wildcats.

pretty lively thread
over there.
I don’t know what to think of this. Can anyone remember when a returning coach has done well? I can think of a fair number who haven’t….
Bill Walsh and John Robinson come to mind right away.

Barry Switzer?
I don’t know if it qualifies but he did win a Super Bowl after a lay off and it was with Jimmy Johnson’s team. But it is a completely different situation. Lou Holtz did turn the South Carolina program around after a 3 year layoff from 96 to 99. He went 0-11, 8-4, and 9-3 in his first three seasons back. He would have gone to a bowl 3 out of 4 years if not for that brawl with Clemson when neither school accepted bowl bids as punishment. Plus, he help land Spurrier to South Carolina. Maybe that is what Snyder is doing, repair while he is there and looking for a suitable replacement. Other than Lou I can’t think of any.

Correction
He would have went to bowls 3 out of 6 seasons. Plus his record was only 33-37 so he wasn’t overly successful but considering where South Carolina was before his arrival it was a good job.
