Blackshirts ARE Back!

Earlier in the week, I questioned Coach Pelini's decision to award blackshirts to 11 defensive players.  I stand corrected.  The team lived up to the hype in today's game vs Kansas State.  I did not personally see the game.  I did, however, listen to the game, thanks to Huskers.com, and was also assisted by imput from fellow husker_fans on the game thread. (Hope the hunting was worth it, Corn Blight, you missed a good game!)

Our D allowed Kansas State only 250 yards.  We dominated.  They  managed 3 big plays: 1) 57 interception return for TD, 2) 63 yard pass for TD, and 3) 98 yard kickoff return for TD.  Otherwise, our Dline was great--many times ending up in the backfield.  Secondary didn't do too bad either.  Freeman and Coffman ended up completing less that half their attempts for less than 200 passing yards, and their rushing game never developed (only 59 yards).

It finally seems that Coach's gameplan is catching on.  The defense has improved nicely.  The team's energy is certainly greater than the last 4 years-combined.  And as a Husker fan, I can sleep well tonight knowing the blackshirts are back!

I actually

watched most of this game, as I got to my destination in the middle of the second quarter. They had purchased PPV, so whooee! I got to watch, and it was rather nice to see the pressure we put on the Wildcats.

Agreed with you on energy. It’s nice to see.

I also watched.......

them play. To me that is as good as they have looked since the Michigan bowl game. I am going to be a little more cautious in saying they are back. Improved yes but don’t set the standard to low. I do agree with Bo handing out the blackshirts though, I am sure the players have worked hard enough to earn them. To say the quality of play is “Blackshirt” worthy only time will tell. I do love the intensity, hustle, and never quit attitude they have it is nice to see after last year.
