Nebraska Cornhuskers vs Missouri Tigers Open Game Thread

Opponent: Missouri (4-0, 0-0 Big 12)
Date: Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007 | 8:15 p.m.
Listen:Huskers Sports Network | Sirius: 140 | Huskers.com
TV: ESPN
Stadium: Faurot Field (68,349), Columbia, MO
Opponent's Blogs:
- Mizzou has not beaten Nebraska 3 straight times in Columbia since 1957 (W, 14-13), 1959 (W, 9-0) and 1961 (W, 10-0)
- A win over Nebraska would give Mizzou its second straight season of at least a 5-0 start for the 1st time in school history, and only the 8th ever.
- The last time that Mizzou entered a game as the higher-ranked team than Nebraska was in 1969, when the 7th-ranked Tigers claimed a 17-7 win over the 20th-ranked Cornhuskers, in Columbia.
-
Keys To The Game
- Run the Ball
Nebraska must establish the run to win this game. In fact, it wouldn't be so bad if we were a little boring on offense. There's nothing that'll take the gas out of a crowd that's been 'preparing' all day like boring the to death making four yards a carry up the middle.
- Consistency
Mizzou's offense will be all over the place. The versatility along with their athletes is why they'll be a threat to anyone they play the rest of the season. Sticking with the 'boring' them, Nebraska's offense needs to be more consistent than versatile. Do the simple well and make them stop it, and that consistency sets up the trickeration, which will further frustrate the Mizzou fans.
- Crowd control.
Getting on the scoreboard early, a big hit by the defense, an interception return, or special teams play - it doesn't matter. Get the crowd out of the game.
- Win turnovers
Adi Kunalic should negate Mizzou's return game, as should Dan Titchener, so we should be okay on special teams. Both of these teams are going to have a turnover, maybe even two. The first team to three turnovers will likely lose. Let's make sure it's the Tigers.
Please use this thread to discuss the Nebraska - Missouri game and any other games you might be watching today.

Kansas
I still wonder about kansas. nice start for them, but KSU's inconsistency is even weirder.
although maybe not since Prince is only in his second year.
Is Kansas for real?

i've come
to the conclusion that the stadium won't be that crazy. it's too late.
people (especially Missouans) can't help but be too drunk to get to the game by now.
there should have been a gob of Nebraskans down there stealing tickets.

Holy Crap
We look absolutely terrible on both sides of the ball. If Erickson sees the field again Billy Boy should be fired immediately. That was the dumbest holding penalty ever, Purify was already by him. And then we have players who don't even know where to line up and Sam is trying to get the ball hiked and the center isn't paying attention so we have to burn a time out. Shit I think I will turn to the LSU/Fla. game.

the problem
with this game is we're doing the same thing so far that we did against Iowa State.
We're throwing the ball. We're not taking time. What little defense we have this season, they're going to wear out.
And we're not that good anyway.
So..... shit.

no, watch closely
the TE's heel comes down out of bounds. In college, you only need one foot, but you do need the whole foot. It was a great effort, but you can only contort your leg so much.

You know what
we need is some back up coaches. Instead of just making the players earn the right to be on the field maybe we should have back up coaches and make the coaches earn the right to be at the game and make decisions. Maybe if that was the case and they didn't get paid unless they were at the game things might go differently.
