Nebraska Cornhuskers vs Missouri Tigers Open Game Thread

Opponent: Missouri (4-0, 0-0 Big 12)

Date: Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007 | 8:15 p.m.

Listen:Huskers Sports Network | Sirius: 140 | Huskers.com

TV: ESPN

Stadium: Faurot Field (68,349), Columbia, MO

Opponent's Blogs:

  • Mizzou has not beaten Nebraska 3 straight times in Columbia since 1957 (W, 14-13), 1959 (W, 9-0) and 1961 (W, 10-0)
  • A win over Nebraska would give Mizzou its second straight season of at least a 5-0 start for the 1st time in school history, and only the 8th ever.
  • The last time that Mizzou entered a game as the higher-ranked team than Nebraska was in 1969, when the 7th-ranked Tigers claimed a 17-7 win over the 20th-ranked Cornhuskers, in Columbia.

-

Keys To The Game

  • Run the Ball

Nebraska must establish the run to win this game. In fact, it wouldn't be so bad if we were a little boring on offense. There's nothing that'll take the gas out of a crowd that's been 'preparing' all day like boring the to death making four yards a carry up the middle.

  • Consistency

Mizzou's offense will be all over the place. The versatility along with their athletes is why they'll be a threat to anyone they play the rest of the season. Sticking with the 'boring' them, Nebraska's offense needs to be more consistent than versatile. Do the simple well and make them stop it, and that consistency sets up the trickeration, which will further frustrate the Mizzou fans.

  • Crowd control.

Getting on the scoreboard early, a big hit by the defense, an interception return, or special teams play - it doesn't matter. Get the crowd out of the game.

  • Win turnovers

Adi Kunalic should negate Mizzou's return game, as should Dan Titchener, so we should be okay on special teams. Both of these teams are going to have a turnover, maybe even two. The first team to three turnovers will likely lose. Let's make sure it's the Tigers.

Please use this thread to discuss the Nebraska - Missouri game and any other games you might be watching today.

Kansas

I still wonder about kansas. nice start for them, but KSU's inconsistency is even weirder.

although maybe not since Prince is only in his second year.

Is Kansas for real?

four beers in. made a batch of venison stew.

I've read War and Peace today. Torn about an iPod to discover what kind of hard drive is needed to fix it.

Egad. I hate night games.

i've come

to the conclusion that the stadium won't be that crazy. it's too late.
people (especially Missouans) can't help but be too drunk to get to the game by now.

there should have been a gob of Nebraskans down there stealing tickets.

eating us alive.

Mizzou at the 15 yard line. There is no Nebraska defense right now. Well.... why should that be different than the rest of the year?

Shit you are lucky

this has sucked and Mizzu just ran a flea flicker that no body could stop. We look stupid. We cant cover anyone right now.

look like a fucking jr. high team. This is fucking terrible. Where is the heart of this team.

by huskergod on Oct 6, 2007 8:54 PM CDT up reply actions

Fuck off...

this is the worst we have looked all year. My god why can't we play any defense?

14-0

now
for crying out loud.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Oct 6, 2007 8:55 PM CDT reply actions

Holy Crap

We look absolutely terrible on both sides of the ball. If Erickson sees the field again Billy Boy should be fired immediately. That was the dumbest holding penalty ever, Purify was already by him. And then we have players who don't even know where to line up and Sam is trying to get the ball hiked and the center isn't paying attention so we have to burn a time out. Shit I think I will turn to the LSU/Fla. game.

Staford

leads with :41 left.

by huskergod on Oct 6, 2007 9:33 PM CDT reply actions

Well

if we dont start covering a little tighter we just as well pack it in now and go home.

by huskergod on Oct 6, 2007 9:35 PM CDT reply actions

USC

is done. fork in their ass.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Oct 6, 2007 9:37 PM CDT reply actions

the problem

with this game is we're doing the same thing so far that we did against Iowa State.

We're throwing the ball. We're not taking time. What little defense we have this season, they're going to wear out.

And we're not that good anyway.

So..... shit.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Oct 6, 2007 9:38 PM CDT reply actions

Why

wont we hit anyone? Murillo could have unloaded on Tony Temple on that run but instead just pushed him a little.

Stanford

wins!!!!!!

by huskergod on Oct 6, 2007 9:50 PM CDT reply actions

we need

to get better at banging them off.

according to the announcers after that sack.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Oct 6, 2007 9:50 PM CDT reply actions

OK

this is fucking ridiculous. #9 didn't even know that the qb was running right at him. He never even looked back or he could have stopped him after about 10 yards.

by huskergod on Oct 6, 2007 9:59 PM CDT reply actions

Wow

we just stand and watch the guy run the screen up the middle. One guy trys to tackle him.

by huskergod on Oct 6, 2007 10:02 PM CDT reply actions

Bad, Bad, Bad..

call. That was a TD.

by huskergod on Oct 6, 2007 10:06 PM CDT reply actions

no

it wasn't.

in the NFL it's a TD. in college, it's not. I'm having the same damned argument here at home

they're prbiably score again anyway.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Oct 6, 2007 10:07 PM CDT up reply actions

NO

you are wrong. In college you only need one foot in and in the pros you need two. It was a TD.

by huskergod on Oct 6, 2007 10:10 PM CDT up reply actions

no, watch closely

the TE's heel comes down out of bounds. In college, you only need one foot, but you do need the whole foot. It was a great effort, but you can only contort your leg so much.

Can you hear this, Denver, or shall I turn it up for you?

by Ignignokt on Oct 6, 2007 10:22 PM CDT up reply actions

No that is not correct

What about when the reciever is facing forwards and stands on his tiptoes? His heel may never touch the ground and he is called in. No different here. He was in.

by huskergod on Oct 6, 2007 10:31 PM CDT up reply actions

heels

if his heels come down out-of-bounds, as the TE's did, he's out-of-bounds.  it wasn't even that close, really.

Can you hear this, Denver, or shall I turn it up for you?

by Ignignokt on Oct 6, 2007 11:17 PM CDT up reply actions

oh

look

we call a timeut on a field goal.

but we couldn't have called the friggin' time out from the sideline when time was runing out when we were driving.

morons.

shit, my o key is not working.

by huskergod on Oct 6, 2007 10:29 PM CDT up reply actions

Well

here we go again. Same thing as the first half, imagine that. Nice pass there Sam. Lets see Joe for awhile. Can we make some adjustments for the second half or what.

by huskergod on Oct 6, 2007 10:40 PM CDT reply actions

Man

how much do we miss Brandon Jackson?

by huskergod on Oct 6, 2007 10:46 PM CDT reply actions

oh

why.

this isn't about bad coaching even anymore.

lord, we're horrible. we're not ourselves. we've lost it.

we should be tearing up this defense. we look like shit.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Oct 6, 2007 10:46 PM CDT reply actions

Oh

its still about coaching too. Why are we this bad? Didn
t we get a bunch of 5 star players the last three years? Where are they? Are they just over hyped or do we not know how to coach them? Where are the adjustments? We dont do that. This sucks.

by huskergod on Oct 6, 2007 10:51 PM CDT reply actions

So

what will the excuses be this week? This isn't USC but we are making them look as good as if not better then almost everyone.

by huskergod on Oct 6, 2007 10:53 PM CDT reply actions

LSU

takes the lead with about a minute left.

by huskergod on Oct 6, 2007 10:53 PM CDT reply actions

We cant

even cover a tightend with a corner back

by huskergod on Oct 6, 2007 10:54 PM CDT reply actions

Wow

did we just quit or what. No one even tried to stop him, and the guy who was covering him just stopped.

by huskergod on Oct 6, 2007 10:55 PM CDT reply actions

OK

lets put in some subs, the starters are not playing and it is time to let someone else play.

We might

be lucky to go to a bowl.

by huskergod on Oct 6, 2007 11:16 PM CDT up reply actions

You know what

we need is some back up coaches. Instead of just making the players earn the right to be on the field maybe we should have back up coaches and make the coaches earn the right to be at the game and make decisions. Maybe if that was the case and they didn't get paid unless they were at the game things might go differently.

by huskergod on Oct 6, 2007 11:15 PM CDT reply actions

Wow

that was rubbing salt into the wound. What was Rudd doing? He should be told that he is staying back to watch the fake and when he sees it TO GO MAKE A FUCKING PLAY DONT JUST STAND AND WATCH. FUCK THIS SUCKS!!!!!

by huskergod on Oct 6, 2007 11:20 PM CDT reply actions

IF

things dont change will this be our worst loss ever to Missouri? Another first for BC.

by huskergod on Oct 6, 2007 11:21 PM CDT reply actions

by huskergod on Oct 6, 2007 11:28 PM CDT reply actions

when you cross the street tommorrow look both ways because there may still be a Missouri tight end running wild.

by huskergod on Oct 6, 2007 11:33 PM CDT reply actions

Yeah

I agree. This is year 4 and I dont think it is really about winning the MNC but I also dont think we should be this bad. There has been no progress from last year to this year and I think we have taken about 10 steps backwards. This is absolutely horrible. How did we slip so far backwards?

by huskergod on Oct 6, 2007 11:49 PM CDT up reply actions

football because we think about it so much.

read read read read read on defense. so much analysis.
