Nebraska - Mizzou Game Day

Here we are.... season on the line....

This will be a fourth quarter game unless Missouri falls apart like they have historically in Lincoln. Don't count on that, though.

Leave your game day comments here. Let's hope they're all good.

I'd really like a good day today, wouldn't you?

This game
scares the crap out of me. Man I havent been this nervous before a game for a long time. Dont like this at all. NU had better come ready to play and when it is on the line BC has failed to rally the troops and get the win. CU, ISU two years ago, KU last year and last weeks game are examples. This is the game of his NU career as far as I am concerned. If we lose it will just add to the fire to get rid of him. People used to bitch that TO couldn't win the big one but at least he was losing to ranked teams when the big one was on the line. BC cant even seem to win the big one against little teams. If we dont win will the boosters and regents be tired of what they see and demand a change or will BC still be here next year no matter what? Lots of questions to be answered in the next couple of hours. If we win BC will be here next year if not I am not so sure. The nation is getting restless and I am not sure the regents and boosters are willing to sacrafice the sellout streak just to keep him.

Usually is
We were at a house that had the game on in one room that was on regular tv and one in another via sat. and the broadcast was usually one play ahead.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 11:19 AM CST up reply actions

Has every...
defensive cord. figured out that when NU uses motion we run the ball and when we dont we pass. If not they should pretty soon.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 11:23 AM CST reply actions

good pick up
i'll watch for that. i get too freaked out at these games some time, but no one is watching with me today.

neighbor hasn't come over (yet).
heidi is working.
the oldest kid went to a friend's place.

they're stuffing too many guys in the box for us to run every play.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 11:27 AM CST reply actions

touchdown saver
by Harrington....

too bad. funny that we've subbed backs so much, but Jackson is in there for this whole series.

misfire by Taylor. argh.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 11:29 AM CST reply actions

yeah
a little shoe stringer that the announcer calls a great sure tackle. pretty lucky to hang on I would say.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 11:31 AM CST up reply actions

3-0
kind of disappointing after the big play not to get a td but if the d keeps playing it will be ok.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 11:30 AM CST reply actions

kick off to goal line
not as good as the first but still better then most.who is kicking?

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 11:32 AM CST reply actions

3 and out again
3 in a row. need to keep this up all day.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 11:34 AM CST reply actions

when was the last time...
we blocked a punt? I really dont remember. It has been a while.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 11:35 AM CST reply actions

on that end around - duck block!
Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 11:38 AM CST reply actions

10-0
hope no let up today. this could be a big win.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 11:38 AM CST reply actions

nice couple plays on the TD
Purify to Nunn

sucked the corner up and Nunn into single coverage.

perfect pass by Purify.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 11:39 AM CST reply actions

interception
carriker gets it and we need another td

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 11:42 AM CST reply actions

good grief
you are a ways ahead of me!

cool! we just need to keep the lead this time.

Franklin got pasted on the play as well. lots of big hitting in the first quarter by the Blackshirts.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 11:43 AM CST up reply actions

10-0
after one. NO LET UP PLEASE, NO LET UP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 11:43 AM CST reply actions

we need to keep running the ball
this time.

that was what undid us at Okie State.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 11:43 AM CST reply actions

dang if
the linemen isnt in the way its a td. oh well he was just blocking

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 11:47 AM CST reply actions

peterson needs to catch that
and we passed when there was motion.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 11:48 AM CST reply actions

we shifted on that pass
play to peterson.

man, he missed that.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 11:48 AM CST reply actions

purify!!!!!
what a catch. great adjustment to the ball. and a good pass too.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 11:49 AM CST reply actions

gorgeous
 pass to Purify!

beautiful basketball play.

Perfect pass, perfect catch, perfect body position by Purify.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 11:49 AM CST reply actions

Well now what
do we keep playing or are we going to let up like at KU and OSU? Man I hope we keep it up today. A blowout should put us back in the top 25.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 11:52 AM CST reply actions

what the heck
what was grixby doing when the player ran by him. he stood and watched. come on.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 11:54 AM CST reply actions

thats more like it
hold them to a field goal and its not so bad

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 11:57 AM CST reply actions

well....
let's go score again.

that's what needs to happen. you want to a lead, keep scoring at the pace we have.

they haven't stopped us much. need to keep that going.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 12:01 PM CST up reply actions

would Jackson
have hiesmen type numbers if he had been the premier back the entire season? It kind of looks like it.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 12:04 PM CST reply actions

that
may be the dumbest thing I have ever seen. stupid.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 12:08 PM CST reply actions

no.
his try for a field goal on the foot line at Pitt a couple years ago was the dumbest thing you ever saw.

but the punt was a damned good punt at least. field position.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 12:10 PM CST up reply actions

great punt
but we shouldn't have been punting anyway. now we need a big stand and hold them deep.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 12:09 PM CST reply actions

they've changed the defense
watch the defensive line. they're not rushing hard... they're trying to maintain position, not hard rush.

Int!!!!!

someone should have looked back to block that guy and we have a TD

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 12:13 PM CST reply actions

yeah
Grixby was playing pitch man

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 12:22 PM CST up reply actions

RUUUUUUUDDD
with the interception and big return

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 12:13 PM CST reply actions

that's how you keep a lead!
score more!

ha!

play action sucked them up the field.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 12:14 PM CST reply actions

establish the run
now.

run the ball, keep their defense on the field. get our defense a rest.

we still need to keep ball control, control tempo, smash the opposition.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 12:19 PM CST reply actions

great catch
by swift. can the announcers pronounce anyones name right. wow they haven't most of the time.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 12:20 PM CST reply actions

do you have
Andre Ware as an announcer on sat.?he is terrible

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 12:21 PM CST reply actions

Another fg
wish it would have been a td but 27-3 is good

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 12:23 PM CST reply actions

2 min
drill by Mizzu lets see how we do on d

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 12:25 PM CST reply actions

looked like he touched a toe
nice grab....

slowed the game down. they wasted tons of time.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 12:27 PM CST up reply actions

ok
maybe he was in.didnt look that way in real time

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 12:27 PM CST reply actions

talk about misuse of
timeouts. Mizzu has 3 and they just now use one with 10 seconds left? wow BC looks like a great manager now.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 12:28 PM CST reply actions

wow.
nice kick by Mizzou.

I don't know if I'd call that momentum stealing like the TD by Okie State before the half.

Second half - we need to keep it going.

I wouldn't be upset if we saw Kenny Wilson hit the field in the second half.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 12:32 PM CST up reply actions

27-6
at half time and now we have to finish the game. Stay focused in the second half. DONT LET UP!!!!

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 12:31 PM CST reply actions

Q and Oc
Have McKeon or Octavien played?  Haven't heard them mentioned yet.
Can you hear this or should I turn it up for you?

by Ignignokt on Nov 4, 2006 12:43 PM CST reply actions

I don't think either of them are
but i haven't stopped to look.

certainly haven't heard their names - it'd be best if we get through the game without them.

they've certainly called Harrington's name from Mizzou enough in this game

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 2:04 PM CST up reply actions

Dont know for sure
I haven't heard them say anything on either one either way. They were listed in the starting lineup but I have seen more of Lance then either of them. My guess is they are playing but not having a big game and that Lance is playing for both on a rotation and he is playing ok. Both have been hurt so that may be why Lance is playing so much.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 12:52 PM CST reply actions

good job so far second half
picking up the third down, and running the football.
Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 12:57 PM CST reply actions

oh my god!
argh! dropped pass!

no one there.... wide open, no one near!!!!!

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 1:00 PM CST reply actions

OH MY GOD
how do you drop that? No way that just happened. Maybe we aren't supposed to pass on 4th down. The Nunn fumble and now this. Holy Crap.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 1:01 PM CST reply actions

My
two year old grandkids make that catch. Dang we have to have that.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 1:02 PM CST up reply actions

wow
we better get some pressure on the qb or this is going to go bad.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 1:03 PM CST reply actions

I hope not
i can't take another week of that. keep scoring, keep the offense going.

at long as the dropped balls don't come in sequence.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 1:09 PM CST up reply actions

nice
run by Lucky on the screen

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 1:16 PM CST reply actions

Is this
game going really fast or what?

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 1:18 PM CST reply actions

hopefully
yes.

we need to get in the end zone here on this drive.

it would feel much better.
we're running the ball okay. not great, but okay.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 1:20 PM CST up reply actions

Who is
#4. Haven't seen him before

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 1:19 PM CST reply actions

roster shows
Menelik Holt. 6'4" WR out of San Diego. True freshman.

never heard of him, but I do like how Callahan uses gobs of people to get them experience.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 1:22 PM CST up reply actions

Not sure
but if I remember when reading about him he is a cousin to Tory Holt of the Rams

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 1:25 PM CST up reply actions

Well what happens now?
This is the time we seem to melt down if we are going to. It doesn't look that way like it did last week but who knows. We didn't play very good d on Mizzus last possesion. Hope we pick it back up here in the fourth.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 1:21 PM CST reply actions

If
your the coach and we score here do you start taking some chances on d and put pressure on Daniels or do you sit back and play a little softer. I go after him and hope to get a turnover and another score. If Mizzu scores they would still need two more to catch you so I would pressure and try to put it away.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 1:23 PM CST reply actions

touchdown, touchdown, touchdown
by Jackson on a nice run. good second effort.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 1:27 PM CST reply actions

almost messed that one up
Taylor ran into Jackson on the handoff a bit, but we get it....
Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 1:27 PM CST reply actions

I think
Jackson may be the best back in the country. At least top 5. He may not have the numbers but if he had played as much all year as he has lately I think he would have.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 1:28 PM CST reply actions

they are certainly taking their time
you know they have to go downfield here.
Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 1:33 PM CST reply actions

i guess not
thanks for short passes and running the ball.

what a gift. they know we're going to run the ball when we get it back.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 1:35 PM CST up reply actions

QB sneak
 something we dont do

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 1:36 PM CST reply actions

it was a dumb call
he may have madeit, but 4th and inches and you run the quarterback wide?

Nice to see that Daniel isn't finding anyone open when he's back to pass - maybe our secondary is getting better? Or he just not playing well?

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 1:38 PM CST up reply actions

Wow
no sneak. And how did we not get him behind the line?

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 1:37 PM CST reply actions

this is just flabbergasting
they have these huge, good receivers and they haven't really thrown the ball down the field much. maybe a couple throws earlier but Daniel was way off or under pressure.
Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 1:39 PM CST reply actions

Yeah
maybe the mizzublogger was right Pinkel does need to go. He may be worse then BC.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 1:41 PM CST reply actions

great time to blitz!
like they didn't expect that....

he got decked, and good coverage. grixby did well.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 1:42 PM CST reply actions

ok
that was just pathetic. Were is the coverage.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 1:43 PM CST reply actions

Touchdown
Coffman.

you'd think they could do that most of the day.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 1:43 PM CST reply actions

Glad
your not coaching Mizzu or we might be getting beat. How does Pinkle not see that. Did he not watch tape from the KU or OSU or USC games? He might be the worst coach in the Big XII.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 1:45 PM CST up reply actions

This isn't over yet
we had better keep playing on offense because the d is not what it was earlier.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 1:44 PM CST reply actions

this series
was atrocious.

HORRIBLE.

I agree with the announcers on this one. Stopped the  clock on the pass. feeble attempt at winning.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 1:50 PM CST up reply actions

I dont think
Bill knows that this game is not over. Someone go explain that to him and hurry.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 1:51 PM CST reply actions

mizzou
at least they're helping us out by not throwing the ball down the field.

there they go, no tackling.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 1:52 PM CST reply actions

Good God
somebody go slap our coaches and knock some sense into them. Crap that was almost a td.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 1:52 PM CST reply actions

what the hell
that wasn't a catch, the ball fell underneath him. I can't believe with all this time that doesn't get overturned.
Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 1:55 PM CST reply actions

Daniel was down
this better be a sack!
Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 1:57 PM CST up reply actions

He was
down when he threw it anyway. This better get overturned

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 1:57 PM CST reply actions

if it's a sack
we better blitz. i hate third and long against us. w sit back and wait for the completion. screw that.
Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 1:59 PM CST up reply actions

and they put 30 seconds
back on the clock.

wow.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 1:59 PM CST reply actions

cracked my first beer
on this play. thank goodness for a lousy throw, or the receiver running a bad route.
Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 2:00 PM CST reply actions

Yes
this may be over now if we don't turn it over or call plays the same as last time.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 2:00 PM CST reply actions

now run the ball Bill
run the damned clock.
Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 2:01 PM CST reply actions

mizzou has burned their timeouts
4th and 1.

we're at the 50. do you go? it's less than a yard.

hell, no balls, no babies.

go for it. Cody Glenn, Dane Todd, run the ball.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 2:06 PM CST up reply actions

hahahaahhahahhhhhhhhhhhhhaahhaahahaaaa!

Merry Christmas, that should be the game barring turnover!

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 2:07 PM CST reply actions

And its back
 to us. RUUUUDDD again.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 2:13 PM CST reply actions

Wisconsin beat Penn State
JoePa got carted off the field.

And that's the game, Nebraska wins!

Excellent!

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 2:15 PM CST reply actions

Joepa
got taken out by 3 guys and being 80 he should get carted off. Hell I would and I am half his age.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 2:17 PM CST up reply actions

So....
the north is ours to win or lose. Just need to win one and we are in the Big XII championship. Well I would say that Bill may have saved his job with this win. If we win one more it is for sure if not we will still be wondering.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 2:16 PM CST reply actions

Texas A&M will be tough
especially at Kyle Field.

We'll have to play damn good run defense in that game.

Go Big Red!

by Jon Johnston on Nov 4, 2006 2:19 PM CST up reply actions

Yes...
I agree but if we cant beat CU at home as bad as they are this year then I will personally lead the fire Bill Callahan rally. They suck and we should kill them. No excuses if we lose.

by taflorom on Nov 4, 2006 2:23 PM CST reply actions

Agreed.
Let's win them both.

Okay, a great day of football ahead.

I'll do the pick 'em thing for the rest of the season in the diary section.....

We'll recap the picks tomorrow.
